stroking the zz4

I was curious if this has been done. I have some questions. Now would i mess up the engine in any way by stroking a crate motor to a 383? Would this be wise? Does any one have any pictures if it has been done.

Not alot of sense in buying a "crate" motor, and then using nothing but the block and throwing away all that other stuff you paid for, and voiding the warranty that way besides.

Technically, yes, it can be done, and no doubt has been done lots of times. But it's far from the most economically efficient way of getting a 383.

A picture would be sort of pointless. A ZZ4 looks like any other 1-piece RMS 350.

http://www.paceparts.com/store.asp look around here. In their magazine they have a "ZZ383/ 425HP" motor with no price. Basically it is a zz4 short block (basic 350) and have stroked it, then put on the aluminum vortec heads(fastburns). The cam used is a little bigger than the LT4 hot cam. This is basically what you want, right? Or they have your average run of the mill 383 with 340hp and 435 ft/lbs. The choice is yours. For some reason i have only seen this motor at Pace Parts and not Scoggin-Dickey, or any other big name dealer! IMO it would be a waste of money buying a "zz4" complete and then tearing it down to stroke it. If you are going to do that, go the extra mile and buy a crate motor with the added cubes already. I plan an stroking my motor some day, but no time soon. I bought the zz4 just ot get a "350". I had the LB9 in my car and at the time of purchase, i was not all too interested in anything larger than a 350. So, times have changed and 12s are really not too fast anymore on the street, and so people are going bigger. It is really up to what you want. As a matter of fact, i think Kandiedz28 bought that fastburn 383, so try emailing him, he might be able to help you out with some questions if you are intersted in that motor. good luck

I wish they would offer that as just a shortblock. I would rather have FI and would not want to have to pay for a Miniram III.

I guess you could try and sell the fastburns and cam but it would be easier with just buying the shortblock. That way you know you have a well assembled bottom end without having to make sure the machine shop knew what they were doing when they bored your block.

I'm sure you could sell the fastburns rather quickly, as well as that cam. Either on ebay or around places like this. It wouldn't be too hard. But still, i think you would still be losing out on the deal, like you said. Call them up, it might be possible to just get the assembled short block. That is if they are the ones who actually build the motor. Could be b/c i know Scoggin-Dickey build some of theirs! Doesn't hurt to ask, and hell, they could probally tell you where you could get one. good luck later
