engine trying to turn over ghostly??!!

engine trying to turn over ghostly??!!

i am helping my buddy put a new engine in his truck, and now that we got it in and hooked the starter up, as we hooked the battery up the starter jsut tries to turn over the engine without the key on.. and the key wont turn over the engine at all??? what the heck is wrong here lol..?? we have changed the starter 3 times im clue less..... thx

You are obviously getting power to the starter solenoid when it should not be. There are numerous ways to do that, one being not having wires hooked up properly. Another is a pinched wire within a harness. I've had the ignition wire on the solenoid touching the power wire after everything was tightened, which produced that effect. Has an interesting effect on your nerves to boot.

You've got some hunting to do, I'm afraid.

it was the selenoid that was doing it, but got her up and running now after a lil adjustment of hte timeing !! wow whata relief its been. haha

Same solenoid on 3 starters?

The thought crossed my mind, but I said to myself, "Nah, they would have thought of that."
