Avoiding disater
OK I need everyones help and advice. i am building a new motor for my 85 IROC, heres what i have so far.
4 bolt main roller block fully machined.
Scat 9000 Crank (383 crank)
Scat Rods
Keith Black Hyper. pistons
AFR 190 heads
3.42 rear gears
700r4 Auto (freash rebuild)
10.1:1 compression
1st question is, how do you all think this cam would work: Its a Crane roller cam custom grind #11HR00028 duration @.50 is 222/230 lift .518/.539 (with 1.5 rockers)? I am told that this would be good for 2500-6000 rpm.
2nd question, my intake plans are to use SLP runners, port my base the best I can, and add a 52mm TB. I am wanting to keep this looking close to stock, but still put out some respectable power.
3rd question, I am thinking about updating the computer to a 87 or newer and work on burning a chip for this set up. Any thoughts?
I know some of this might seem a little odvious but I don't want to make any costly mistakes, money is tight.
Thanks for any help!

Patience, my son. Some of us are gainfully employed and need to ensure our boss is not looking as we contemplate your dilema...
I think you're trying for too much cam. I don't know what RPM SLP says their runners are good for, but 6000 may be stretching it a bit. I have a bud who uses their runners on a ZZ9-cammed ZZ4 (much, much porting work) that he shifts at 6000, but I think he's over-shifting. He'd probably be faster if he shifted lower.
I'd guess a 58mm TB is in order as well. While you're doing the TPI upgrading, might as well go for SD, since you're planning on PROM tuning anyway.
Also, cam/rod clearance is an issue with strokers. Make sure they like each other.
I hope a nice loose converter is part of the TH700 freshening plans.

My biggest concern is the cam, I don't plan on running this motor to 6000, I think shifting at 5000 to 5500 is more reasonable for TPI. Basicly I don't want to over cam, or under cam.
Swiching to SD is just scary, I haven't done any prom tuning ever so I worry that it will take months to get a chip that is even close to good. Is there any one that has Bin files (if that's what they are called) that I can start with so I am close to what I need?
I do plan on a converter that has a stall speed of 2500, which I am thinking matches the cam I have been looking at.
