a few engine swap questions

getting ready to swap my 305 out for the 350 i have, and was just wondering if i could cut a few corners such as running the stock HEI, or will i have to go ahead and spring for the aftermarket HEI setup?

also, how much horsepower/torque can the T5 withstand? what can i do to strengthen it, if anything.

Thanks,

-Curt

I swapped a 350 and I used the the same HEI distributor that I had on my 86 Z28 LG4 motor. Worked fine and later updated it with Hypertect cap and rotor.

Did you still retain the ECM when you swapped to the 350 from the LG4, and if not, how were you able to retard the timing while RPM increase?

Yes I retained the ecm. The shop that installed the 350 motor did everything since at the time (many moon ago) I was not mechanically inclined to do any motor work. The timing was advanced 2-4 degrees.

T5 Upgrades

As far as your T5 goes, Hanlon Motorsports has excellent upgrades for the World Class T5. I went with the high end rebuild, steel retainer and a billet shifter with great results.
