rod knock

alright my buddy pulled his 305 tbi motor to put a 350 carbed motor in it ... that's all good. now he has the centerbolt heads the a victor jr made for the other bolt pattern and it didnt seal right. leading to antifreeze leaking into the oil pan. i took the intake off and drillerd it to fit the centerbolt heads. it seals fine now and ran decent. we got all the antifreeze out of the oil and all but it still ended up with a rod knock... when we hooked a oil pressure gauge up it had 15 lbs of pressure at like 4500 rpm but the oil pump is brand new like all the bearing except for the cam bearings is that the problem or is the antifreeze the cuase for the rod knock

Sounds like the bearings ran dry because of the contamination in the oil.

If it was knocking it was doing damage. How much damage is impossible to say unless you take it apart. Revving it to 4500 with 15lbs of oil pressure is not good

It depends on what the knock was. It probably was the lifters running dry. Nevertheless I am sure there was some seroius wear on the bearings, etc.

If the engine is not knocking now it might last a while if he does not beat on it. This should give him time to plan on its replacement.

yeah he is planning on either putting a 40 6 in that camaro or the 86 ta he has but i think i would be good to bore the 350 and put the 406 in

Do not forget to check out the 383 strokers. There might be some cost advantages.

woah 2 quarts of oil and 4500RPM One time with my stock motor I got an intake leak that caused antifreeze to slowly get into my oil. I drove around for about a week before my oil pressure started to fall. I changed the oil and and fixed the leak. pressure went back to normal but about 4 months later my car started making his horrible screeching sound. Pulled it apart and the cam bearings were worn to the copper I'm 90% sure the anti-freeze caused the death of my motor.
