ZZ383/425 425 HP 383 Small Block Crate Engine with Aluminum Heads

What do you guys think this engine would run 1/4 mile with this other parts ?

1.SDPC2000 T.P.I intake
2.ported plenum
3.aftermarket runners
4.headers
5.52 or 58 throttle body
6.700R4 with stock converter
7.couple of suspension modds(koni shocks/hotchkis springs/polyurethane bushing kit/etc.

On a 1985 Chevrolet Iroc - Z with few accecories(no a/c, pw, pl, ps, t-tops)

Well

Not sure what it would run, but if it's a ZZ series engine, wouldn't it have the aluminum l98 heads?

If so, you could use the stock (ported I hope!) intake base, and not have to dump the $500.00 into the SDPC2000 TPI intake.

It is made so the TPI system can bolt up to Vortec heads.

Its from SDPC2000.com and it has the GM fastburn heads

http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...120&pid=156334

If im not mistaken fastburns and vortec heads dont fit on a stock T.P.I intake, you will have to buy an aftermarket one?

PM Kandied91z, i believe he has this motor with a miniram and bigger cam. Atleast i think he does. I know he has a 383 cratemotor with the fastburn heads, and as far as i know, that is the only motor like that. If that motor was around when i bought my motor, i probally would have bought that too! good luck

There are now 2 crate motors with the fast burn heads. The first is the fast burn 385 which is a 350 with 385hp/385 lb/ft tq. This is the one that if you add the LT4 hot cam you are supposed to get around 430hp. It is almost exactly like the ZZ430 except the ZZ430 had a different cam, little less lift on the intake, little more on the exhaust(than the hot cam). There is a new crate motor with the fast burns now, the ZZ383. This is the one that is being dicussed. It is a 383 with fast burn heads and comes in at 425hp (3.800" stroke, 4.000" bore). THE BANDIT-Z, I would urge you to consider the Fast Burn 385. It is a bit cheaper and would probably produce more power than the zz383, with the right cam of course. In regards to your question....I would imagine you could hit high 12's and possibly get into the 11's with good tuning with and engine like this. This, of course, is based solely on the output of the engine.....a lot of other things come into play like rearend and suspension, tires, etc. but hey, buy it and let us know!

I've been debating the same thing. The fastburn 385 with hot cam or the zz383. I'm looking for an engine that will do good at the strip and still be good for street use. Also I'm not shure on the sdpc tpi base or the tpis miniram for vortec heads

it would be nice to see

members here develope a prom (for sale) that would be compatible with this or any proven engine and cam setup. I'd love to see Glenn, Trax, Grumpy start burning proms for different proven heads and comp combos.

I know you can't get it exact and they will tell you every car is different, which is true, but at least it would run strong right out of the box. In addition it would encourage me to start burning as long as I had a good base line to start with.

Trax, if you read this, let me buy your old prom combo when you had the ported TPI setup, comp cam and AFRs, I love to run in the 12s PM me

PS I love to see someone here other than Ed Wright, dont get me wrong Eds fine but it would be nice to see someone here get paid for their knowledge.

I checked the price on both crate engines on www.SDPC2000.com, I checked with them because they are from Tx and so am I so shipping wont be that costly(I think?).

1.Fast Burn 385 w/ LT4 Hot Cam Upgrade Custom Crate Engine
Price: $4,899.95
(http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...=1578&pid=2598)

2.ZZ383/425 425 HP 383 Small Block Crate Engine with Aluminum Heads Price: $4,699.75
(http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...120&pid=156334)

The 383 comes out cheaper I guess because it doesnt include the intake like the 350. Both make almost same hp and slightly diff torque. The 350 includes an intake that you wouldnt really need unless you would go carb? While the 383 doesnt come with an intake so you could probably decided on a ported T.P.I system or the rest(mini ram, stealth ram, super ram, etc). Yes both engines are in the 4 to 5K, but if It would get me on the 11 sec category and be street drivable Id go for it. Comments from people that have any of this engines(or want to have) on their vehicles would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

425hp should be good for mid to low 12's, that is if you can hook up....

Nah man, get the fast burn and then buy the LT4 cam (used) from someone. It's a roller so there really isn't any wear that happens to it. There was one on this board about 3 days ago for $125 added to about $4100 would come out less than the 383. Of course you'll have to get 1.6:1 roller rockers, but again those can be had just about anywhere. Trust me, I've been wanting to do this combo for a while and have researched the **** out of it....but hey, do what you like. Just my $.02. If you do get either though, please post some times so we know what to expect if anyone decides to do this combo or falls into some money and gets the crate. 425/430hp would be way too much fun to not share.......:lala:

Well, if you do a search for the fastburn385 you will find a lot of info i have given and found. That is the motor i bought and currently it has the hot cam and MRIII. As far as vortec intakes go for fuel injection, i believe the MR and SDPC intake base are the only two available for vortec heads. I went with the MR b/c i want to go with a s/c in the future and i wanted to buy what i like to call, "my last intake i would ever need". And for close to $2000 from TPIS, it will be the last one i buy for a while! lol Well, the motor is strong and sounds great. I have yet to drive it b/c i broke a part of my tranny putting in a sending unit for my electic speedo. It sounds great and idles very nicely. I still want more cam though and in the spring i think i will upgrade. It has an Ed Wright chip, which came out to $350 from them. As far as the motor goes, just buy the cam and roller rockers seperately and install it yourself, piece of cake with the motor out of the car!!! Save some money for suspension or trans work. The fastburns have the LT4 style valve springs on them already so do not buY the kit, it is a waste of $500!! Don't ask how i found that out. 2 years ago when i bought all of this stuff this motor was fairly new, and i guess SDPC did not know much about it, so i just bought the whole kit from them. It seems like it will be a stout motor for the street and i will have some times in the spring on this current combo.

I am guessing the numbers they got were from dynoing it with a carb..probably an 800cfm. However, I think if you look at the lobe seperation that will tell you. If it is 110 then it's definitely for carb. If it is 112 or 114 then I would imagine it would be computer friendly and a custom chip and LOTS of tuning would get it to run with either tpi or miniram.

I know these engines are made for power... but I was wondering what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting with either the ZZ383, Fast Burn 385, or the equivalent of a ZZ430? (with fuel injection)

Thanks.

Re: ZZ383/425 425 HP 383 Small Block Crate Engine with Aluminum Heads

I know this is an old post but I'm pretty green as far as building any engine and would like to know as well if the zz383 or 385 would be well suited for a tpi set up attached and are fast burn heads considered vortech heads? just curious if a vortech base is a better choice seems the fast burn heads are double drill via vortech and center bolt previsions....any help in this would be great thanks!!!

I can answer one of those questions- yes, the fastburn heads are vortec heads. They are drilled so that you can run either a vortec style intake, or an older style intake, but they're made to work best with the vortec intakes. (I have a zz385 in my car, but it's not TPI)
