What can I expect to run with a stock zz4 engine in my '84 trans am? I am looking into the zz4 and would like an engine that can propel my car into 12 second quarter mile runs. Should I choose the zz4 to reach my goal or is there another engine combination that you would recommend for me to reach my goal? I know that when getting this engine I will have to build up the tranny and rearend. Thanks for all replies.

 

The ones I have seen run from the mid-low 13's. You could probably break into the 12's on a good day or with good traction.

 

You might want to look at the 350/330HO motor. It comes complete for around the same price as the zz4. I have seen people in the low 13's with this motor stock...and it has a pretty tame cam. I would imagine you could hit 12's with the zz4 with good gears and a good torque converter.
