need help with engine swap
I've got a 91 camaro rs. It has the stock 305 and 700r4 tranny. I had a vortec motor out of a 97 z71 rebuilt by a machine shop. I wanna make sure I have everything I need before I sit down to do the swap. I'm gettin a holley street avenger series carb, edlebrock rpm air gap vortec intake manifold, and long tube headers. I"m pretty sure I have to get an electronic fuel pump because of the vortec block, which means I'll have to get a regulator too. Can I use the stock cooling system, distributor, ignition and all of that stuff that I already have in the car? Also do I need to get new motor mounts because of the different engine? Any other suggestions would be awesome. Thanks, Jake
cooling should be fine. my 91 RS now has an 11:1 358 and it stays plenty cool with the stock radiator and electric fan. if running a carb you will need a non computer controlled distributor. an aftermarket HEI goes for $160-$200, (Summit or Jegs.) motor mounts are same. as for fuel, if you want to save some time and money you could run your factory in tank pump for a while, just use a return style regulator such as the Mallory 4309. this type of swap has been done countless times so a few searches might help too...

The motor will swap right in no problem, i dont think the air gap manifold will fit under your stock hood though. The only problem youll have is swapping from to tbi to carb, and you can find everything you need on this subject in the tech articles. Good Luck.
