Ive been told this by a few people (never tried myself) that if you rip one apart, the filter will actually crumble, or something to that effect. Basically what they were saying is that they are complete junk, so I tend to stay away from them myself. Not trying to start a war over filters, just stating what I've been told. These were pretty knowledgable people so I'll take their word for it.

Yeah, Fram umm stinks.

Someone should post the website where the guy tested a ton of different filters and found out from 3rd person which is the best.

Very informative.

Ls1 looks sweet man. Be sure to get a Strut bar in your setup though, or else it may not match the rest of your car, plus the performance of a strut bar is insane!

yeah, we took a Fram oil filter apart at school, and it's actually cardboard inside the filters. From the 3 we looked at, the AC Delco on was the most high quality. When you buy Fram, you're basically paying for the non-stick grip.
Anyway, can't wait ta see pics of the swap! Man that is gonna be a MEAN car when the LS1 is in!

Fram does suck. That's like putting Pennzoil in your motor<---:nono: However, I would like to see this finished man. Ought to be a hell of a ride.

Are you going to run those LBA 3rd gen headers with an LS1? I think they are the only ones eight now that make headers for such a swap witout going custom. You may want to because we all kow how LS1's love exhaust mods. Looks great though can't wait to see the finished product.

Don't waste your money on those headers. The 01-02 LS1 manifolds flow as good if better than most shorties. I would extrude hone them instead. Also you can free it up out back with an ATR stainless system.

That's pretty much the consensus. Shorty headers don't accomplish much more than the stock manifolds. Bad news is there aren't any known long-tubes that'll fit a 3rd gen.

Whose consensus? My friend runs 11.4's with shorty headers with a flat tappet cammed 383 with 11:1. A recent dyno in car craft showed no gain in horsepower between LT's and shorties. Actually I think the shorties made more horsepower.

We're talking about LS1 manifolds, so:

Consensus among LS1 owners who have compared dyno data between LS1 manifolds (not regular SBC manifolds) and shorty headers.

Is your friend's 383 an LS1?

Yea this is very true. Some LS1 guys can put over 360 to the wheels with the stock manifolds. The 01 and 02 cars got the LS6 exahust manifolds which were even better. The stock ones have true 1.5" primaries. Not the biggest but just as good as any low budgt shorty.

I'm going with custom headers.....

Roy installed the JBA headers on his car and gained 3 hp........The person who i'm having build my air intake test fit them on a Z-6 vette and lost 3 horsepower.....

Mine will be custom headers and the exahust will fail to exsist.........No cats, no mufflers......Just pure LS1 exhaust sound out the back.....

IF it's too loud, i may install a hooker cat back with the quad tips......

Just FYI, the LS1 doesn't sound too mean, it has no deep tone to it whatsoever (well using the stock exhaust anyways).

That's actually not correct. The '01+ LS1s got LS6 intake manifolds, but not the LS6 exhaust manifolds. I have a set of LS6 exhaust manifolds that came off an '02 Z06 and they're radically different from the '01 LS1 F-body pieces...nicer, but won't clear my front crossmember.

GM did revise the F-body exhaust manifolds to flow better in the later years, evidently the cast ones are the better ones to use.

You are right. They sound raspy through a stock exhaust.

You should hear mine! It sounds like an angry big block. I could not believe it when I first heard it. My exhaust is not stock. It would be a waste to do this swap without upgrading the exhaust.

Yea I knew about the intakes amongst other diff's through the years but from everything I read on ls1.com says that they also got the exhuast manifolds as well. That makes sense what you say about the cross member interfereance and I wondered about that when I read about them. Maybe they mean that they have the LS6 desing with the f-body collector location.
