Bigger valves are almost always better. But if you are on a budget you are going to be looking at maching expense+the valves+the rest of the junk to hold them down. Since you are on a budget, take the money you'd be spending on the machining and larger valves and get yourself a dremel if you don't already have one. That way you can port and polish the bejesus out of everything you have, TB, runners, base, heads, everything. That'll actually give you a better increase in power than just upping the valve size. Plus it's one more tool to add to your evergrowing collection

OK...well I do have a dremel, and I know if I do the porting I'll wish I had a plug in one. Mine is rechargable!!!! So say I don't do anything, but just put this Forged rod and piston setup 76 with the 89 TPI system, what do you think I will get for power, a guestimate???? I know stock I run between 235-245 right. Do you think 300 is possible???

Now since I will have things to sell, 79 heads, and I have a set of 93 350 Truck heads(ported and polished, 3 angled) I would prolly have the money for some machine work after those are sold. And I could port and polish these heads myself(the 89's). Well since I have 1:94/1:50's, would 2:02/1:60's make a difference, will those valve sizes work with the 89 heads???? I have the money for valves right now, its just the machining I would need....thats just getting the valve seat machined for the larger valves??? Like I said I could port and polish the heads, intake, runners, plenum.....what do you think????

The porting on your tpi intake won't bolt up. The 89 tpi has 8 holes for the intake instead of 12.

The intake ports are different between the older heads and the vortec heads. Hence the intakes are aren't the same.:lala:

I also have an 85 intake that will bolt up to the old style heads for tpi. I used vortec heads on my 357 and had to go with the newer style. Let me know.

um....no....
The later TPI intakes have 6 holes per side, or a total of 12. The only difference in them is that the center 4 holes have less of an angle to them, more like up and down instead of at a 90* angle to the intake flange.
