Nothing spectacular. It's probably rated for around 140hp/230 lb-ft.

Well, thanks man...

If someone could chime in and tell me a little bit more, or give me the lift and all...that would be great.

I was thinking these got a bit of a wild cam then the 3rd gen blocks.

Thanks again guys, oh yeah and is there anywhere we can find by the book numbers for chevy production motors from the factory (ex. rated HP and TQ) because It's got to be more than 140 HP...or I hope so for my friends sake.

It's garbage. I have one of those in a 78 El Camino. I'd say 140 HP is probably a bit generous. I think my El Camino is "rated" at 125 or 130 HP.

The best you can hope for in the cam is a "929"; .390"/.410", 195°/205°. Anything else would be downhill from there. Believe it or not, there are actually worse cams than that one, but not by much. The cam is certainly not "wild"; those were the low-performance, CAFE lowering POSs of their day. A "wild" motor in those days would been a (hold on!!!) 180 HP 350, and those "high-perf" motors all came with the 929 cam.

But, you can't tell what cam is in it by the block casting number.

I hope your friend isn't thinking this is a better motor than his LG4 or something, and is going to stick it in his Z28; that would be a BIG step backwards. Those are pretty much the very bottom of the barrel. It probably even has the 1.72" intake valves, instead of the 1.84" like the LG4 and L69 or the 1.94" 350 valves.

If it has the '451' heads, it most likely does have the small valves.
Years ago, I bought a 76 or 77 305 to put in an Impala for a winter-beater; it smoked like a *****, so I scrapped it and tore it down and measured the cam for the heck of it. I forget the exact numbers, but they were on par with the LG4 cam, somewhere around .350" intake and .380" exhaust. Wild stuff.

He just blew his LB9, and was going to put the heads off it onto the old 305, What I just learned about the motor is it's got a crane cam (owner showed me the box, going to pull it out and see for myself), then it's got a 60 over bore, now after it's blew one more time, it will then be offically garbage if it isnt already which it isnt looking to good.

I found a '71 350 punched 30 over short block, and a LB9 long block that comes in the deal for 250, don't know much else about them just heard about it and called the guy and asked him about tthe 350 and he liked me I guess and said I could have the LB9 that he didn't need it anyway.

So I'm thinking rework the 305 heads and put them on the 350.

And screw the 305 he was gonna get for cheap.

What do you guys think?
