LS1 Throttle Body

I was lookin at an LS1 TB, b/c my friend is using an LS1 TB on his 3800 SC V6 and he wanted to trade me for a TPI TB. I was lookin on the LS1 TB and on the butterfly valve there was a half adome shaped piece on the uper half of the valve.. and so i thought to myself... "This has to resrict alot of airflow.." my question being... Is this piece necessary for the TB to function right.. my friend wants to know before he rips it off.... Any info would be great... I've never seen anything like it.

I think he is talking abour the moutning ridge that TBI guy grind down on their butterflies. Am I correct? How is he going to use a TPI TB where he had an LS1 TB. They are completely different and have different mouting holes and such.

Oh ok. I thought you were going to use the LS1 TB on genI or II motor. And I thought he was going to use the TPI TB on his V6.

I have no idea what the hell that is, but that isn't an LS1 throttle body anyways. Looks like he gave you the v6 one.

EDIT: It may have something to do with directing flow at part throttle, but it is definitely a huge restriction. I'm positive though that that is not an LS1 throttle body.

There is a mod for the older style LS1 TB. However I did not see the EGR tube. The picture is not clear. Check ls1.com mod section.
