I thought a 454 was a big block. There's a guy in Houston that's got a 454 in his T/A. I don't think he posts here though...

you can make a 454 small block. and no one that I know of has one. BADDEST305 has a 434 small block, but I don't think anyone has anything bigger.

yeah 472 is now the biggest, shafroff makes the engine. They use a hardcore 415 block and then bore and stroke it. I would just love to put one in my car and then throw a set of valve covers that say 350 on them , no one would be the wiser.

It's not Shafroff. It's www.Shafiroff.com

You won't find it on their website though. For some reason it isn't on there. At least I can't find it.

Actually, you can bore and stroke a Motown 427 block (small block) and make 500 cubes. It's been done.

This is the biggest SB I have seen in print from SpeedoMotive

481 CUBIC INCH FORGED CRANK KIT $2725.00

THIS CRANK KIT REQUIRES A DART IRON EAGLE TALL DECK BLOCK. ALL BRAND NAME PARTS WITH CUSTOM PISTONS ALLOWING YOU TO DESIGN YOUR OWN COMPRESSION RATIO

4340 FORGED 4.125: STROKER CRANK LITE-WT. 52# HEAT TREATED, NITRIDED AND 4 LIGHTENING HOLES
4340 FORGED 6.250" H-BEAM RODS WITH 7/16 ARP CAP SCREW BOLTS, FULL FLOATING
CUSTOM FORGED 4.310" PISTONS, LITE-WT. CNC MACHINED, FORGED PIN OILERS, DESIGN YOUR OWN COMPRESSION RATIO
TOTAL SEAL TSI RACE RING SET
CLEVITE H-SERIES MAIN & ROD BEARING

To get to 500 CI, you would need a 4.33 bore, and 4.25 stroke. Not sure that the bore is too safe that thin...

Thats what I thought, I was under the impression 48x was the biggest you could get and still have a useable block.

with an engine like that you're limited to 18*/15* or SB2 heads if you want to get them enough air. 23* Small block heads are too small for a 454 ci IMO. you could make 600 HP with a 383 or 355 for much cheaper than a 454 SBC

guys, you could probably bore and stroke a small block all the way out to a 502, that doesn't mean it's a great idea. I find it hard to digest that 454 or 472 is gonna be able to take much mod's at all, or even not over heat stock as is. I'd be careful, generally anything over a 427 sb is not recommended.
