LT1 cam swap... yes i searched.

Ok, i searched, & read a few posts.. none really pertaining to what i wanted to know..

What exactly do i need to have changed in my engine/computer. To put an lt1 cam in my 305 tpi?

I've gathered the chip.. ok.. where from? if not where from.. where can i get one burned? I'm not sure of the specs, as i'm not sure of the cam's year.

thanks.

personally i would not spend the time it takes to instal a cam like that, now if you had a stock LT4cam i would do that for a substantial gain, aftermarket has a much beyyer selection that will give you more power

YEs that may be true for 305 5 speeds and such but if you have a 305 auto with the peanut cam its not a bad idea. Im doin the same swap right now. Its a cam relative to the normal 350 cam so itll bring the 305 to where it should be.

gen3 how much did you pay for your chip & is it custom?

Friend just told me that he saw somewhere on this site that said that you could use stock chip & it'd work w/ the lt1 cam.. cuz it's maf & it's more acceptable to changes.. i dun believe.. but is that possibly true? if it'll atleast work.. that's alot of worry off my shoulders.

LT1 cams work great in 305's weather they be TBI or TPI. The specs are much better than stock and are extremely tunable. They also fall within the limits of the stock heads. You can also get them next to nothing. I had an LT4 cam in my possession that I paid $175+ shipping for. I sold it in favor a tad smaller slight used LT1 cam for 35 out the door. The point is that you can get these cams for next to nothing. I would only go aftermarket if I were you if you were full competant at burning your own chips and had aftermarket heads. It is pretty fun to spin a 305 TBI to 6200 rpm with the LT1 cam.

that's the thing, i can't burn my own chips... i dont' have a prom burner.. i can get one for 150.. but.. then i'd have to have the .bin files... if someone could give me the .bin file.. hell... i'd go buy a prom burner right now. THen i could read up on how to tune it. & then play with it after i'd get it running...

I have the cam on the way.. ordered it from ebay today.. 26 + 10 s/h... should be in here next week i'm guessing.. same w/ radiator(rofl).. I guess it's just gonna sit tho till i can get a prom for it.. cuz i aint putting it in my car w/o a prom that i KNOW for a FACT will work with the cam.. ya know? i don't care if it's perfectly tunned to max hp even to 2 hp.. as long as it works, & works well, is what i'm asking for..

Where'd you get your prom burned at shifty? or.. did you burn it yourself?

Doesn't the LT1 cam have the dowel pin to drive the water pump? How did you guys get around that? Just curious. Did you file it down?

That doesn't always work. A dremel and a cut off wheel can shorten it in about 5 seconds.

well.. dremel is always fun anyways, :-D

HEy... i found someone to burn me a prom... now.. should i do 24 lb injectors or 30? or.. leave the stockers?

also.. should i get 1.6 rockers & change springs or no?... i don't want to do any grinding for spring clearance on the heads.

I would double-check the math if you want to do 1.6 rockers. Springs and pushrods are a good idea if you want to do it right.
