305 dying, need some consulting on new engine.
I'm going to get a new 383, but I'm not sure what the exact specs should be. I want something between 450 and 500 HP. I've got the transmission, but not the rear, but that can come later. Because my engine is definitely going south.
Block: 87+ 350 4-bolt 1piece rear main seal roller
Crank: forged, not anything excessive, just forged and fairly good quality
Rods: I've hear I don't need forged rods unless I plan on going to a high horsepower application.
Pistons. I want some forged pistons that can make the compression in the 10.x range to run on pump gas.
Bolts: Undecided, you tell me.
Cam: Something around the lines of a Comp Cams XR-282HR (most debated piece) Hydraulic Roller
Heads: I really want to go with Pro Lightning 200 or 210's with a 64cc chamber, but my friends are all giving me **** about Pro Toplines and tell me to get some AFR's or Brodix heads. Literally, just to **** me off, out of the blue they'll say "Pro Topline?" You make the call. If it's something else, let me know.
Rockers, pushrods, and springs: haven't thought about it much. I just want something that I don't have to worry about.
Intake: Holley Stealth Ram, will have to switch ECM and wiring harness because of obvious reasons (read sig)
Well, that's about it, if I forgot something, let me know. Thanks

Wow. nobody's interested. I'd figured that I made it easier by listing each part. Guess not.

I would look into doing a stroker LT1 setup. Then you can get the LT4 head and cam packege from gmpartsdirect.com This might save you some money because you will not need to go with the stealth ram setup.
What is your budget? We will be glad to help you spend it.

budget...
4-5K. but that must include accessories and ignition plus harness and ECM.
So, let's just say 5500 for the wholekit n kaboodle.

I still think it's possible:

I am sure you can get a beat LT1 setup much cheaper than these but this gives you a good starting point.

dont cheap out on your bottom end, you dont want to have to fool with it when 500hp isnt enough and you want to add NOS
run 6" rods as long as your buyin' pistons anyway
bolts: run ARP's another thing not to cheap out on
run full roller rockers, .200 longer push rods, and good springs
ive never heard of proline heads. i know world products and afr work well
cam after your done choosing your other crap call up the manufacturer and see what they recomend for your setup and intended use
world pro. single plane, holley 4150 750cfm
buy the way if you try to run sticks w/ this engine and nothing done the stock rear you will have to tow your car home.
get a girdle at the very least.
