Well, do you have to face emmisions testing in your area? If not just get the regular headers. Also, why the th400? If I rember right its gears aren't as prefereable as say a th350 or 700r4. You're gonna have to spend some money havign a driveshaft made. Also, you have that torque arm to deal with. If you are dead set on the th400 you can go to Jegs and they sell a bracket kit that allows you to mount the torque arm to the 400 tranny. IMO there is a better way. I had a TH350 shop built they installed a 700r4 output shaft, and then the 700R4 tailshaft. The whole thing only cost me 500. This allowed me to reuse my driveshaft, install the torque arm, and hook up my speedometer without changing anything. The only difference was the Kickdown. Also if you stop at headers, you arent going to get the gains you want or need. Make sure to improve the entire exhaust system.

I already purchase the th400, was told it would be stronger, I say the kit for the trans on jegs. We do have emissions here in colorado, do you have the b&m shifter as well I'll go with that to get rid of the overdrive. I have to cut the drive shaft 3 in shorter. What exhaust do you have?
Thanks Rick
Thanks Rick
Right now Im still using the stock shifter, it kinda sucks, eventually im gonna get a Megashifter. I drove a Bird with one of these and they are NICE. Im running good headers and a good y pipe, then 3 in back to a nice open muffler. Sounds good and performs good. The th400 is definately stronger in its stock form, and most performance ones too. I almost went with one myself, but I was offered to good of a deal to go with the 350 tranny.

If there is a visual inspection when you go for emitions testing, then yes, you should have headers with the AIR tubes on them. If there is no visual inspection, then you would probably be fine without them.
