Just need to know how Strong of an engine stand I need.

 

Any of them will work even the cheapie 750lb one.

 

i put a 327 short block (block, crank, pistons rods) and my cheapy 1000lb stand from summit flexed a lot when i put 1 head on one side the entire thing looked like it was going to break so i took everything off..

 

A typical SBC weighs about 500lbs.

 

i know..me and my friend were able to lift the thing in my car..this thing just didnt look safe

 

I assembled my 396 on a 750#, 3-wheel version.

 

Same stand I used, but mine held a 305 and a 350, not a big block. Mine never had any problems. My 305 shortblock has been hanging on the stand for about 6 months now, and I've never had a problem. It also Held an assembled 350 for at least 2 weeks before it was installed.

Mine held the fully-assembled 396 for about a year before I finally took it apart and rebuilt it.

I've had a couple of 350s, the 396, and the 305 from the Camaro on mine (that I can remember right off hand).

 

Mine also held a 239ci Flathead V8 too... that thing probably weighs at least what the 396 does. Its a big fugger.

 

nevermind my friend put the engine stand together wrong...i thought about why the engine stand looked messed up..i flipped the front wheels and the part where it bolts to...i put the engine back on it and all seems fine
