305 or 350
Does anyone know how to tell the difference between a 305 small block and a 350 small block without trying to get a the casting number?

Is the motor in the car? Is it the motor that came with the car?
If you're talking about the appearence differences, the only way (that I know of) is pull the heads and check cylinder bore. I'm sure some of these gurus can tell you another way.
Sometimes the VIN # on the car can tell you, if it is the original engine in the car.

Some of them have 5.0 or 5.7 cast into the side of the block. You can also pull a valve cover and look at the last 3 numbers of the head casting. That is only a rough idea beause some people use 305 heads on a 350.
