lt1 swap , alt charging issue

I Have an Alt that I aquired from the junk yard for an lt1 and I am using a 96LT1 harness. I only have a small red wire on the connector for the alt. I am hearing stories of frying alt's and overcharging, resistors etc.. I am using a 94 PCM btw, what should I hook this wire to?

thanks

Hook it up to a "Hot when on" wire. I didn't use any resistor and mines charging 14 volts strong. Doesn't miss a beat and doesn't over charge.

Well, the red wire is watcha need, I can;t recall if mine is one red wire, i'll reply when I take a look outside, currently in the process of moving the PCM to the stock location and cleaning up my wiring, I got 2 plugs inside the car right now and looks real nice.

Excellent, its starting to look pretty clean now! I have 3/4 of the computer harness plugs back in the stock factorm ECM location, just one more to do tonight and I can put the hood back on . Im taking it to the dyno probaby in 2 weeks to see what I get and after that its off to the body shop to be painted back to the factory black.

good to hear. Where are you hiding the pcm? I put mine where the evap can was, that looked easier than jamming it in the dash.
My car is black now. but if I paint it, I prob won't go black. I find it hard to keep clean and is very hot. Though they do look great black.

You're thinking charcoal canister. The evap canister is the silver can for the a/c.
