389 Tripower Swap
389 Tripower Swap
Kicking around idea of swapping a 389 tripower into an 83 T/A. Indian Adventures has mounts and headers, been told 200-4R will mount right up to it. Has anyone tried this and what kind of problems did they run into. Not looking to burn up any strips just a crusier. Thanx

I heard that you would have to notch out the engine cross member (cant remember what it's called
). cause I asked a friend about a pontiac 400 swap...

How do you figure that? From the sounds of it he already has a 200R4, all he needs is the mounts and headers. Whats so complicated about that?
for one thing having a 200r4 doesn't get you very far since it wouldn't have the BOP pattern. you'd need to figure out the torque arm. motor mounts, trans cross member, exhaust then there would be the things that may or may not be a problem, like the k member, stearing box, heater box, and just about everything else under the hood would have to be looked at and considered. there are a lot of other swaps that would be easier and cheaper. nothing that couldn't be over come but for the time, effort ,and expense is a 389 tri power thirdgen what you really want?

i had a 61 pontiac catalina with the 389 in it it would make for a fun ride if you can get it in there without too much trouble they are some real torqey engines but i think i would do as ede said and sell it to someone for some good $$$$$ then buy a good stout engine that would fit inthere a little bit easier ...but then agian the awe factor is unbelieveable when you pop the hood and find a 389 tri power under the hood of anything ..lol
