TPI on L69 block?

hey guys,

my friend is offering me this L69 corvette block he has. it's a 5 liter 305 with some custom tuning and parts and i was wondering if the TPI injection system would fit on there because i would like to retain the FI. i really want to buy this off him because he's giving it to me practically for free and i think my original motor is in need of some rebuild work (125,000 miles). i'll still keep my original motor, of course, because my car wouldn't be # matching anymore now would it? heh

L69 corvette block
And I thought it was bad when people claim that every 350 in the world is "from a Vette".... so now they're even saying that their 305s are "Vette motors"? Where will it end? Will we see a 2.8 "HO" "from a police interceptor Vette" next?

/rant mode off

The L69 long block is the same as the LB9 long block of the same year. Everthing will bolt right up if they're the same year, or year range anyway. Since your car is a 88, the L69 would need to be a Monte Carlo SS one from 87 or 88; oitherwise you'll have different intake bolt angles and valve cover bolt system. If the motor is 85 back, you'll have to change your flex plate to the 2-piece rear main seal type, 12¾" diameter.

I got such a laugh out of that "305 from a Vette", that almost made my whole day.

thanks for the info man.

though i have to tell you there they did make a 305 for a vette back in the early 80s for their california cars. if this is the case then my induction probably won't fit.

well, i'm glad i made you laugh.

Ugh... 305 in a Corvette... brought to you by the same suits that brought us the wonderful 'auto-only-with-350' Camaro Z/28 for 1977-81, when you could have a 4-speed/350 in every other state and here in Canada.

Damned hippie tree-huggers

Yup, that's right, a "California special"; but it wasn't the L69. All of that was before the L69 even existed.

But that's OK; the 70whatever to 81 350s, those wonderful 180 HP 882 heads 929 cam wonders, weren't exactly the pinnacle of desirability either. I know, I had my share of them. In fact I had a 79 Z28 4-speed and a 78 Z28 auto at the same time for a while; I'm having a hard time remembering which one was more gutless. I did put a set of 186 heads and a Comp 268H cam and a Holley 9895 (mistake) and 4.10 gears on the 79, and it was somewhat less lame; but IMHO not enough to be worth the effort and money I put into it. I traded that one off for this 83 I still have, and I drove the 78 for about 35,000 miles and then sold it for several hundred more than I paid for it. So maybe it wasn't all bad.

I guess with the emissions regs like they were at the time, they did what they had to do, even though it sucked. I'm glad we've gotten past that now. I REALLY don't miss those days.
