Ok I read the sticky about swapping wasn't that great did have a few *** notes. Like moving the brakeline because its too far up on v-6 in order to drop in a v8.
I have a fullsize 76 chevy truck for donor. I plan on cutting all the wires off it. Meaning leaving them attched to the motor and cutting em back so far to leave room for splicing into my harness on my 86 sport coupe. Like alt., starter, and distributor wires. I am only cutting the ones from the truck, its a junker. I'm not cutting my car until I get the motor in and figure out whats plugs need to be cut off and changed in order to plug it into my harness and use my factory harness w/ spliced ends if need be on the aly., distributor n such. Hope that doesn't confuse everyone.
(If my harness ends that plug into the nessacary parts of the v8 are the wrong ends since they are from a v6 harness I'll cut and splice the old trucks v8 harness plugs onto my harness so they have the correct ends for a v8 if need be.)
What ends will I have to change?
Can I unbolt and move back the frame mounts for the motor?
Trans. crossmember, I need to find a trans out of a camaro w/ v8 right? If not and I go to old school type trans. auto or manual, manual w/ linkage rods on side like in old cheveels and other muscle cars, what needs to be done to a cross member? Holes driled to accept the 2 bolt trans mount.?
I was also wondering if the 2.8 y pipe would bolt up to shorty v8 headers? Summit has 3rd gen headers for under 100 bucks gonna use thoose kind. I don't have very deep pockets. Maybe dyno max or another cheaper set of headers shorties or not.
As for emmision crap and ecm I want to take it all out and junk it.
I know I may have to re wire the fuel pump and maybe the electric rad fan? What would have to be redone or changed to remove the ecm? Or, If I just disconnect the sensors and crap I won't need and only keep and use the alt., distributor, and maybe the fan and fuel pump wires. what would have to be done?
Can I disconnect the in tank pump and put on a mechanical one on side of my block and use it?
I'll also be using my own oil pressure, water temp, and voltage guages. I just need the basic have to's to work, alternator, distributor, my radio, lights and such. also a speedo and fuel guage which i can get my own fuel gauge but what about the speedometer?
nything else I should look for or have to modify or change for a v8?
other then springs and such in front? and that brakeline.
New power steering pump? or one from any old v8? or have be camaro w/ v8?
Sorry for the long question after question but I'd like to know what I'm geting into before I start ripping it apart and then go WTF do I do w/ this? Only engine swap I done was the old fullsize straight 6 to the v8. That was no biggie direct drop in.
Any way to reuse my 5 speed? Like s10 have same kind and have a special bellhousing n junk to bolt it up. I also have an old linkage type saginaw 4 speed w/ belhousing and wondered if it fit my 5 speed? I don't think it would hold up so I was thinking of changing it anyways.
thanks for the help.

I dont know the answers to all of your questions but I can try to help. You'll need to get V8 motor mounts at your local parts store for like $20 for rubber mounts. If you go auto tranny and 700R-4 or 4L60e will bolt up to the crossmember without any problems. If you go T-56 youll have to get a new crossmember. I wouldn't use the T-5. Youll probably be able to snap it easily with the V8. The smog stuff get just be ripped off and shouldnt affect anything if you do. Since youre goin witha carbed V8, there will be a lot of wires that will not be used. I dont know which ones they are though. For the electric fan, just wire it up to a toggle switch so you can turn it on whenever you feel the need. Get a bigger radiator. Get new front springs so the handling isnt comprimised all that much. You can just get a V8 gauge cluster and you will have all the gauges you need. FOr your speedo, get a pre electronic tanny so youll be able to hook the cable into without having to buy anything else. Thats all I can think of for right now.

Please dont hook your fan up this way. You will be melting switches like mad.
Get an aftermarket fan switch, pepboys sells them for like $25.
That and a relay and your fan will be adjustable and go on and off automatic.
Get the adjustable one and you can set when you want it to come on and off.

Sorry guys I forgot to mention that the fan was already fixed. Like so many others w/ the manifold type heat activated switch it had melted and stopped working so they wired it in somewheres to come on when the key was on. I think it was wired to the fuse panel not sure. Just another hack job done to the wiring on my car before I got it. The switch idea was a good one I would just worry about forgeting to turn it on. We've wired a few electric fans up to come on when car was on and they work fine that way. Normaly take extra caution and hok us a fuse to the hot just in case. Everyone says you need to change to a v8 radiator to, I can see why due to the lower hose being on drivers side, and the lower water neck on the pump for a v8 being on the pass side. The top being on passenger and then being able to change water necks on the v8 to put it on either side on in the middle. It would be tricky to try and route a lower hose from passenger side of pump to drivers side of the radiator. If it wasn't for that the stock rad. should be just fine. Reason being, we have an old 76 chevy 1/2 ton 2wd truck and they say them old radiators suck and don't cool wel at all. Wel the truck came w/ a straight 6 and we droped in the v8 had no cooling probs at all. It has the manual fan mounted on the water pump and its about 3 inches away from the radiator w/ no shroud and we had no probs.
