ls1 and ls6 questions

My first question is whats the difference between the ls1 and ls6, i know the ls1 makes about 305-320 hp and the ls6 make 405hp, what changes are made? cylinder heads? cam shaft? Also where is a good place to pick up a used ls1 or ls6 from. Id like to start my project with my camaro. Ive checked ebay, but i think some of there prices are ridiculous.

The differences are much like that of the LT1 and LT4. The LS6 has raised runners and uses a slightly better intake (01 and 02 LS1's got the same intake). The LS6 has better exhaust manifolds, lighter valves and better tuning. These are just some of the basic things. There are slightly different tollerances and different nit picking things. You will be hard pressed to find a LS6 that is within budjet. You are better off starting with an LS1 and going from there. Much like how the Lt4 conversion kit isn't worth it on an LT1 when there are other parts out there that will make more power for less.

I would also agree with ShiftyCapone, your best bet is to buy an LS1, the LS6 does create more power, however the extra cost for the engine is not worth it.......

Just buy a 2000+ LS1 engine from camaro/firebird and you will be set

Check local message boards, and maybe even a sponsor above like Hawks or the former sponsor www.fbodymotorsports.com

They have the ability to get you an LS1 engine ship it to your house with choice of transmission........

Buy an LS1, you'll save a bundle than check ebay, camaroz28, ls1.com, ls1tech.com on the for sale sections for anything that pertains to LS6 parts and just do the upgrade yourself for a lot less. I disagree with going to fbodymotorsports, I and others on this board have had a lot more bad experiences than good going through them, try hawks instead.
