305 heads on a 350 block

i currently own a 305 tpi firebird formula. i believe the engine is gonna go soon, so i'm planning to swap in a 350. i've heard 305 heads on a 350 short block can get very nice power if paired with a nice cam. i want to save money seeing i dont want to spend more than 1000 dollars on the engine. i know a guy who makes short blocks for like 500 bucks. anyone know what cam to pair with my 305 heads?? also i'm planning to swap the tpi over on the 350 as well, changing the injectors and possibly the lower manifold too. sorry if this question is asked a lot, but i would appreciate some help thanks

Have you tried searching "305 heads" in the General Engine Tech forum ?

Here is a quick answer from everything I have seen searching.

305 heads will raise your compression

If the 350 heads are swirl port (TBI Trucks) or they are 882's then the 305 heads if 416 or 081 will be a big improvement, most say to cut for 1.94in and if there is room 1.60ex with a good port and polish the heads should support good numbers. Sittingbull and others have had good ported flow numbers from worked over 305 heads.

yeah i had that setup on my iroc. the 305 heads give you like 10.5-11:1 compression with flattop pistons. if you work them right and open up the valves you will be really happy.

ever been sideways in 3rd gear?
