Hello

you either have to hook up the compuuter to the distributor or go to a vacume advanceor mechinal advance distributor. with the computer disconected from the distributor there is no way to advancce the distributor.

later and GB

grab a new MSD unit if you have the cash or just grab a any NEW, don't bother with a rebuilder, they cost almost the same.

anyways my brand choice is MSD and ya you need one for vaccum advance

nothing wrong with going to the junkyard and picking up a good used distributor and rebuilding it ...how much does a msd distributor cost ...i know you can rebuild a used one for around 75 bucks i doubt you can buy a new one for that and the rebuilt one will be just as good

yeah alot of people are afraid of rebuilt parts for their cars but in my opinion i think that they are just as good for alot of thing ..of course some things you shouldnt do that with but a distributor is fine in my book just check it out really good and make sure the gear is good and then replace what needs replaced then your ready to run

i KNOW THIS IS NOT HOW YOU SHOULD FIT THINGS UNDER THE HOOD, BUT ON THE 68 CAMARO THE GUY THAT OWNED IT BEFORE ME used a Dinnging spoon and hamer to reshape the firewall or in otherwords he dented it pretty good.

Hell no. All V8 third gens 82-86 had the big cap HEI. The only way the cap or housing don't clear the firewall is if the engine isn't mounted on the right mounts in the right location. The vac. advance could be oriented wrong though.
