bought my LT1!!
Well I picked up a 93 Camaro Z28 with the LT1 and M29 T56 for $1000 from a local kid who hit a tree and a parked car.
The car is totalled but the motor runs strong and has a new opti that was recently installed.
I plan on dropping the whole K-member and removing the engine and trans from the bottom.
My question is what is the best way to go about removing the 305/700r4 from my firebird and reinstalling the LT1/t56.
I'm hoping I can just pull the engine and trans at once and not have to pull them apart. Is this possible, or do I need to install the motor and then the transmission second?
I know in the fourth gens you can just drop the k-member - but I don't think its that easy in the third gens.
I can't wait to get this thing running!
I'll be ordering my Spohn cross member and some hedman longtubes pretty soon.
Which brings me to one more question, do the hedman longtubes clear the T56 ok?
Thanks!

I've got a spohn t56 x-member listed in the classifieds - still in the box...if your interested PM me.
You should be able to yank the motor/trans as a whole from you car and replace with the motor/trans from the donor. Get the rear of the car as high as possible to ease the angle of the transmission entry (so the tailshaft doesn't hit the ground.
HTH!!!

1st i dont see how you believe dropping the engine and k member from the 4th gen is so easy, unless you've got a lift at your disposal, then i'd say the difficulty of that compared to removing the thirdgen engine from the top, is about the same, i've done both, and dropped 3rd gen ones out the bottom.
2nd Drop the combo in from the top into your car, its quite easy, better than putting a 3rd gen one in from the bottom.
3rd do yourself a favor and skip the hedman longtubes and get yourself a set of 1 3/4 slps.

You have to get the car reasonably high to clear the motor / trans once the k member is dropped, if you do it this way remember to cut or disconnect the brake lines as they will hang on if you dont, with a lift you can actually drop the engine trans and rear axle all together, though i'd say the easiest way for a home setup is the way i did the 94 i had after wrecking it, remove the front end and whatever is salvagable then just cut the upper radiator support out, lift the engine right out the front / top.
I *highly* doubt you're going to like trying to fit those longtubes and a T56 especially once you see under there with the xmember for it, the SLP's fit great, are very high quality, and perform wonderful on an LT1, if you do a little reading on cz28 the best LT1 car shorties also seem to be the SLP's and they're quite similar to thirdgen ones, if you try reasonably you can get a set for a good price, i really dont mean to have this look like im advertising, but my old set is on ebay right now if you want to take a look, item number 7913246010

Also you'll probably have quite a task on your hands for fabricating a Y pipe for the hedmans, for little to no gain over the SLP's, just doesnt make sense imo to go through all the extra trouble and hassle for some extra ground clearance loss and pita of trying to fab a Y pipe up in there to clear the T56 and its xmem.

Shoot me an email with a price on your headers if you are interested in a buy out.... rage@advnet.net
and did you just sawzall everything off to get the clearence in the front end?
Mine doesn't have any fenders or anything - just mostly the core support in tact.

Just sliced the upper radiator support at each end to make the lowest point a lil lower and pretty much took it almost straight out the front.
