what year 3.4 to swap?

Hi,
I'm planning to swap a worn out 3.1L from my 91 camaro and would like to replace it with a 3.4L. I've read past posts but still have questions... Will a FWD shortblock work? AND, Can I use the later 3.4L FWD aluminum heads with the original (camaro) intake/plenum, etc?
Thanks

You would have to use one of the RWD block 3.4s...which means 93-mid 95 Camaro and Firebird. From what I understand, the FWD aluminum heads will physically bolt to the block (one guy, Raven I believe, used them on an S10), but won't work with any of the Camaro induction. You would have to swap everything from the FWD, and even then I don't know if there would be any real advantage, or what you'd be getting into. I'd stick to the standard 3.4 swap, maybe with some head work and a cam like Redraif and I did on her car. Check out the tech article by karl, he's got the most experience with 3.4 swaps, it'll answer most of your questions. I'm still writing one with Redraif for her site on our specific swap.

ive heard there is a DOHC 3.4 that came in like zz4s or luminas or something with around 215hp stock, is there a way to take the DOHC and add it to the RWD block or maybe put it on a 3.1?

IIRC the dohc was fwd only.

Quick edit. Again, iirc, the valve train geometry for the dohc is different.

It would probably be easier to swap in a Northstar than the DOHC 3.4, as there are kits/support for it. 85 f-bird is doing thi/going to do this swap.
