Did someone mention a 3800 Series II in a third gen????
I'm the second person that I know of to do this. First was an 84 Camaro, and he kept the original tranny.
If converting to manual (which I thought of instead of getting the 4L60E rebuilt, but costs too much $$) pretty much read up in the tech articles on switching between the two, and get a matching manual pcm. What yr is the engine anyway?? mine is a 95, but you can take advantage of HP TUners' programing if you substitute a 97 PCM (it's a direct pcm swap). [shameless plug] check out my cardomain site for some pics of my swap [/shameless plug]
edit: you WILL need custom engine to mount brackets made. I got some fabbed up for $80.

well I run L67swap.com and the motor i am using is going to be the L67 motor. I have no problem doing custom sutff myself and making things fit. it is a challenge but fun. Would you be able to get a second set of mounts made up that i could buy from you. the motor i am planning on using is a 99+ with cam and smaller pulley and headers if i can find them. Do you have any pics of your car done with the motor in and done.
do you suggest using using the auto because that is what is already in there.
why is a manual swap to expensive?

I have since hooked up the icm & coil packs & have driven it back & forth in the driveway alittle (open tubular manifolds). I'm Nate Dog 5 on your board, I've been away for a few months (check my location).
I still intend to send that Aussie hot rod shop some intake manifold gaskets so that they can match up the intake needed for that ".OTHER " kind of supercharger.
I'm keeping the A4 because parts/salvage yards want ungawdly amounts of money for the manual tranny. screw them. $740 rebuild will just fine, thanks. The mounts I have are kind of ghetto looking, but get the job done. I'm pretty sure that I can get the same dud eto make another set, but then I also reused the same mounting location as the 2.8 mounts. Also, the engien is sitting lower than probably should, but that's ok, good for manuvering
. My biggest issue when I get back will be making sure the tach & speedo work w/my gauge swap Last edited by Projek: 85 3800; Aug 21, 2004 at 02:39 PM.

it looks really nice. do you know if the 305 and the 2.8 use the same mounts. My plan is to do this and not take more than a week or so. get everything ready to go before i start. The wiring is not going to be an issue to get the car running. I think i am going to do the same thing i do for the grand prixs to get it to work. I am just wondering how the Tach and speedo work in the 84.
as of now the cars interior is done. i put in 98 leather seats and switch it from tan to black.

thanks, caint wait until it gets backon the road again (fire free this time)
The V8 tach will not work w/the 6, unless you know how to fix the electrinics. Maybe just get an after market tach & put it in the dash???? Speedo, maybe aftermarket electric one.....although, if you can live w/a manual valvebody, build up a v6 700-R4 w/mechanical speedo & hook it up. THe V8 tranny will 100% NOT bolt to the v6 A4. There may be an adaptor plate ot there, but do you really want to use one???

3800 FWD II are 60 degree like 4 cyl and other small v-6 are
the old buick 3.8 RWd were 90 degree however
good luck

no way
2.8(FWD&RWD),3.1(FWD&RWD),3.4(FWD&RWD) are all 60 degree v6's
FWD and RWD 3800 series II's are 90 degrees. so a 3800 form a 2002 camaro is 90 degrees and a 3800 from a 2002 monte carlo is 90 degrees
