I need a crate...
I know its probably about the bazillionth time asked but I need help picking a crate.
I finally received my budget(ie credit) ...and its $3000.
I would like 300+ hp and the same neighborhood in torque.
I would like a ready to go crate as opposed to one I need to put together myself.I just aint got time.I already need to put in the engine,a torque convertor,350 turbo trans, and hopefully posi rear end when I take my weeks vacation.
I was originally going to get the 350 deluxe HO but the cheapest I can find is $3500 + shipping of a few hundred,so it blew the budget.
Any ideas for a $2500+shipping crate?I hope to ditch the computer entirely.
thanks

Do you also have to buy the trq conv, and th350 ?
Are THOSE parts also included in the budget ?
Honestly, besides the goodrench and other engines
within that category, I dont see how it could work out..
'cause if you buy the 350 HO, itll run you 2k ... ( just a long block )
Then you need the rest .. your budjet is blown.
But if you buy a cheap crate engine.. you get .. cheap parts..
The best way to do this ( my opinion
) is to plan out what the engine will be (desktop dyno), and respect that, cause then you can get the torque conv, and trans .. keep the remaining cash ..
and save up for the 350 HO, or something else you choose.
You can get 300hp out of a 305 .. and fix up the th700 .. tho you stated your preference.
bottom line: 3k wont cut it for a complete drivetrain.
ps. I didnt include Installation..

You sig doesn't list any exhaust mods. If you still have the stock LO3 exhaust system, forget 300 HP.
Now, how exactly does this 300 HP goal have to be measured? Like the 350 HO is measured? If so, a 305 can do that for you with a carb (and proper exhaust). But, as stated, you'll have to upgrade other things in order to keep it driveable and still make power.
My brother just got this engine http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...46&p_catid=111 for his '93 C1500. Install scheduled for next week. With shipping, "forklift fee", core charge (he isn't sending his old one back), it ran him just over $1600. You can taylor it as you like (cam, lifter type, heads, etc.).
But, you really need to figure in all the "support" equipment as well.

Thanks for replying.
The 3k is the engine budget.I've been stockpiling the other parts over the past year or so to get ready.
The exhaust is in my basement.I didnt include it in my sig since its not on the car..yet!I've got from Hookers to catco cat all the way to a spintech muffler.
I'll have a s-10 torque converter between the 350(hopefully) and 350 turbo trans.
The install will be free since I'm doing it with the help of my bro-in-law.
I dont want to keep the 305....its got 200,000+ miles and I dont have time to rebuild.Plus I was going to give it to my bro-in-law as a good faith gesture for helping me out.
So basically I want a complete turnkey drop-n-go carbed 300+ hp/tq 350.Ideas?
Plan B is call the credit co. and BEG for more!!!

Thanks spectre.
b This is what I wanted, but heres the problem:
Crate Engine 350CI/330HP (Deluxe) HO Engine with Iron Vortec Heads
330 Horsepower:
350 HO Deluxe Value, Power and Durability,
Complete From Carb to Pan
Service Parts Listing
MSRP: $4,721.89 Your Price: $3,385.21
Its almost $3400...add another 500 for shipping(thats what I was told,may be wrong)...$3900
Thats the cheapest "complete" 350 I can find.
I guess I'll call up the CC co. and explain the situation and ask and hope for an increase of a grand or so.The engine is the only reason I got the dang card to begin with!!
Thanks for helping bro!:yourock:

dont know if this is still ongoing or not but i just recieved the 350 ho deluxe. Shipping was 175.00 from jim pace chevrolet (ohio) to atlanta georgia. I dont have it running yet (just got it yesterday) but i couldnt believe just how complete it is. spark plugs, wires, distributor, carb and air cleaner were installed on the engine There is even oil in it with a filter. I bolted the headers on and dropped it in it was excellent. going to start on the accessories tonight

I'm in the Atlanta metro area as well. Do you get to pick and choose where the motor will be shipped from, or are you at the mercy of the nearest location with that motor? $175 shipping for something weighing as much as a motor isn't bad at all, especially for the distance. Did you pick the cheapest shipping or was there only one option.
The motor is expensive enough, and I'm sorely afraid that I'll get took to the cleaners on shipping. Also what are you swapping from? I want to swap my 305 for a 350, but it's carb'd and I don't know how much a pain this will be.

there was only one option I believe. But I didnt think the price was bad either. It came into the yellow truck terminal up in marietta. Just drove in and they loaded it with a fork lift and I drove it home. Very quick and painless.
As for the price???????? It is expensive, but you get everything you need and it is all brand new stuff. I had a carb and distributor but they had seen better times, I needed a vortec intake for this swap and a new dist. cap/coil and wires anyways. My old flywheel was bent in one spot. Basically I had a bunch of cheesy stuff i had pieced together, and this engine not only came with it , It came all installed. Even down to the spark plugs installed and the wires run, also had oil in it. Yes the distributor was 180 out and i did drop the oil and put in fresh . All in all I have been very pleased with my purchase
As for swapping to a carb:
1. you need a non cc distributo (which comes w/ this engine)
2. you need a carb and intake (^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^)
3. you need a 3 port fuel pressure regulator summitt racing sells these. 3 ports: inlet /fuel feed for carb /fuel return to tank
Then just to have some control over it I wired in a switch to turn the pump off when the key is on (Pump is now wired for key on /pump is on) But even with this switch off if you crank the engine the oil sending unit powers the pump once it senses oil pressure
It is a fairly simple swap. I did it about 2 years ago. There is tons of info on this board if you search a little. Thats how I figured my swap out.
