V6 to V8swap, fuel pump??

okay so i went over the briefing at the top of the forum about v6 to v8 swaps. I just dont understand what you would have to do for the fuel pump. If my 87 bird has an in-tank fuel pump all i need is a 3-port regulator with a return, and then what would the oil pressure safety switch do? And i allready bought a holley "red" pump so how would i use that and bypass the in-tank pump without taking it out. Basically if anyone can explain, in a little detail, how to run fuel to my 350 in my situation.

thanks

The V6 uses an oil pressure switch. You need to use it on the V8, too, that's all.

I'm not sure of the details about getting the power to the pump on your particular application. Some used the ECM, others didn't.

You can't avoid taking out the in-tank pump if you don't use it.

That is the route most people go with. When I did the v6>v8 swap, i just dropped the tank, modified the pickup and installed a mechanical pump on the block. It was a lot cheaper, and works just as well, if not better because it is a lot simpler. Whatever you do, dont try to leave the in tank pump in if you arent going to use it. It will cause problems.

so can anyone walk me through how to keep the in-tank pump to fuel my motor. all i can gather is to use the original fuel lines and attach a 3 port regulator w/ bypass before the fuel filter and followed by the carb? really hazy on this topic so anything will help.

Didnt do it on mine, but to my understanding, you must retain the factory oil pressure shut off switch, or at least you should. I guess you could toggle 12 volts to it, but it wouldnt be a good idea. As far as physically installing the regulator, line from the tank goes to the in port, the return line hooks to the return port on the regulator and the fuel line to the carb hooks to the out port on the regulator.

Sorry, been unavailable for a few days.

The best way to describe his other two posts is, "Does not play well with others."
