buying 87 camaro w/bad 305, swap help with 350

i am considering picking up a 1987 camaro with the 305 and manual. i havent seen the car yet but i wanted to get your guys opinion on the car. the original engine is bad(dont know why yet) but the body is in great shape. supposed to have 80,000 miles on the car. it has been garaged for a few years now. i can pick up the car for 100-400$. I know the car is carburated. all the information i have so far is from what he says and i dont think he knows much about cars.
i can also pick up a 350 carburated from a friend that i know is in good shape that he needs to get rid of for 100$ without transmission.
my question is when should i expect in the engine swap? can i keep the transmission from the 305 and bolt it up to the 350 reliably. what parts can i keep from the 305 like radiator, power steering? etc.

does anyone have any links or manuals that can help ease me through the swap? thanks

i am looking at the car this week so i can give updates soon.
anything i should look out for in this 87?

Welcome aboard.

That sounds like a good base to start with. The 350 swap is fairly straight forward.

However, there are a bunch of different 350's out there. Some work better than others, some won't have any more power than the 305 had.

Get the casting numbers from the block (located above the bellhousing mount) and heads (you have to pull the valve covers to get them). Until we have that information, we can't really give specifics about what you'll have to watch out for/do.
