Pullin My 350 TPI

hey guys, i'm pullin out my 350 TPI motor this week outta my camaro, my question is, what exactly has to all come out before i get to actaully pullin the motor...my buddy said i have to take the whole front of the engine off, ac, alt, waterpump, powersteering, all of that crap, to get it out...is there any truth to that? I just wanna save myself some time, and maybe you guys could help me with that by telling me exactly what HAS to come off...also what do I hook onto to pull it out? is there a special place to grab on to or what?

your best bet to answer all your questions on pulling an engine w/ or w/o a tranny would be to do a..........

!!!!!!!!!!

:lala:

but anyways im bored so ill answer: ive never had to pull an accessory off before when pulling an engine, just disconnect and LABEL every vacuum line and wire, jack up the engine to unbolt from motor mounts and tranny mount and lift away...

i'm lifting with the tranny attatched...do you think it would be easier to prop it up a bit, unbolt the trans, then pull the rest of the motor? i can't believe i gotta pull all the accessories off, i know the radiator has to come off, but thats off already...all the wiring and stuff stays in the car right? just disconnect and label? I did a search, maybe i wasnt' typing in the right stuff, but it didn't answer my question on what to grab or bolt on to on a TPI motor...

A Haynes manual would do you a lot of good.

If you're pulling the engine and tranny together, get a tilt sling.

It's a helluvalot easier and less messy to leave the trans in; and pull it after the motor is out.

With TPI, you may need to pull off the runners and plenum; seems like it would be tough to hook onto the motor without damaging any of that.

Start by pulling off the plenum and runners, and remove the distributor. Remove the top 2 trans bolts from above with a short 9/16" box wrench, after you pull the distributor.

Leave the water pump on. Unbolt the AC compressor, and WITHOUT DISCONNECTING ANY OF THE LINES, rotate it off to the side out of the way. Take the PS pump off and wire it to something so it doesn't fall upside down and spill everywhere. Leave as much on the front of the motor as possible, it's easier to strip it after it's out than to lean over it in the engine bay.

we got it out already....we just took the distributor cap off, headers off, upper plenum, left the runners, and we took the whole front end of the engien off, and my dad made custom pulling mounts that tap into 3 bolts on the heads...worked out great...

Bastard! That made me bust out laughing. Reminded me of when I cut thru 9 inches of cement to put in a basement door. Lots of dust. Had some help from a friend. We went drag racing the next morning and no time for a shower. He said there was so much dust in his hair, he couldn't get a coumb thru it!

Now, back on topic. Any paticular bolt to attach a chain onto? Stock head bolts ok at the pass rear and drivers front? Any to avoid?
