305 stroker kit

What it is yo? I was wondering how I can find a stroker kit for my 305 TBI. The car is an '89 Camaro RS if that makes any difference. I've been trying to find some prices on the internet, but I can't really find any for the 305. Any information would be awesome. I want to see what I can do with what I've got. Thanks.

Powerhouse makes stroker kits for them. there is alot of people on here that will say to stay away from building the 305, but i can speak from experience that i can get one to go fast. the stroker kit really isn't going to add much hp. it will help with torque though. it will just about square the motor too with a 3.735" bore and a 3.75" stroke. the biggest problem you will run into is getting your stock heads to flow that kinda air. they will not. the heads that came on the lo3's really suck bad. if you want to stick with the tbi and make this motor faster, you will need to go get some PROM tuning stuff. it's not cheap, but it will help keep your 305-based beast fed and streetable. there is alot of TBI info in the TBI forum here on the site that can get you started (hey, i am a carb guy!) occasionally i think about building one of these motors, actually, i have quite the buildup in my head already, but the bottom end of my 310 is pretty solid so, really no need to change that. anyhow, here is a link to the site that has the Powerhouse kits on it, the 335 kit is about half-way down.

If you put that same amount of money into a 350 you would have more power. There is no point to a 335 stroker other than it being a conversation piece. You want to maximise your hp per $ ratio.

A 335 would out grunt that 350 on the bottom end. That 1/4" longer stroke makes the 15 cubic inches irrelevant. Get some good breathing heads (ported 601s or Vortecs), a good cam and you are off to the races.

DD2000 is pretty accurate so here you go. On my 350 by the time you used the average conversion from RWHP to flywheel it was only off by 7 HP and 2 ft/lbs. Torque curve mimicked what DD2000 was showing.

HP------TQ-----HP
2000---364---139
2500---377---179
3000---384---220
3500---396---264
4000---399---304
4500---388---333
5000---360---343
5500---315---330
6000---264---302

Specs on the above engine are as follows
Late model 1 piece rear seal roller block .030" over
Stroker crank for 1 piece seal 350-383
5.7" Rods, KB Hypereutetic 305 Stroker Pistons
LT1 Roller 350 cam,
14022601 HO heads(Reworked Exhaust Ports1.84" & 1.50"
valves)
Shortie style headers into high flow cat and muffler
Holley 670 CFM TBI
Computer chip
340+ HP TBI 335

Not at all. I have never seen DD be anywhere near 10hp difference. Its always more than that.

Dont waste the money stroking a 305, you will hate yourself later.

Why Waste money buying a stroker kit for a 305.

You can buy a stroker kit for a 350 to 383 for the same price amd make a ton more power.

By time you buy decent heads, stroker kit, better throttle body, tune it, etc you will probally spend more then it woould to build a 400 hp 383. Thats just my opinion.

The Powerhouse stroker kit is $600. If you want it with damper and flexplate, that's another $200. That's for a 2-piece rear main seal crank, which the '89 block does not have. I'm not sure what they're charging for a one-piece crank these days (last time I asked was in 2001 - they said it was available, but stopped answering my emails when I asked how much).

Then you have to have the block machined for the .030"-over pistons, and pan rails clearanced - just like you would to make a 383. But, the 383 kit is only $500 (plus the same $200 for damper & flexplate). If you can't find a 350 block for $100, you aren't trying hard enough.

And, as stated, the '89 TBI heads won't be able to handle the extra displacement.

And, the 100 HP increase they claim for the "New" stroker kit (they called it "New" in 2001, and the ad is identical today) was as much due to the other things they did/recommend as it was due to the extra stroke/cubic inches.

Can a 335 (really a 334) be made to run? Of course. How much will you end up spending to get it to run? That's the issue, since the answer is, as much or more than a 350 or 383; and, certainly more than it would cost to get a 350 or 383 to run as well.

You can always just build a 350 and then tell everyone it's a 335. Not like you most would now from the outside anyways. Then you'll get the performance and the gee golly I did something different just because.

Re: 305 stroker kit

Speed-O-Motive makes a 340 c.i. stroker kit.
Don't listen to those guys saying a stroked 305 wont run. Ive ran one and it ran better than any 383 car i ever drove. it only had a 334 stroker kit and vortec heads on it. it outran my friends 89 camaro with a 406, so it definitely moves.

This thread is over 2-1/2 years old!

334 running better than any 383? Only if something very wrong with the 383 (or not in an apples-to-apples car).
