Actually it hasnt been..not many people go that route..in fact as of right now im the only one on this board running a carbed LTx motor..so i guess im the "go to guy" concerning this particular swap...the only things that you have to look out for are that since the LT1 has the optispark drivin off the fron of the cam, there isnt a hole in the intake for a distributor...in the lifter valley there is a dummy drive stub that bolts to the valley floor..this drives off the cam and spins the oil pump as in a traditional SBC...obviously youll need the carbed LT1/4 intake and only GMPP makes it, i got mine through scoggin dickey for 239...the part number for the LT1 intake is 24502592 and its 234..the part number for the LT4 intake is 24502574 and its 239 which is what i have...they have the hole for the distributor so any distributor for a SBC will work...the other thing youll need to watch out for is the hole that will be left by the missing optispark...youll need to plug it with the opti block off plate (i dont have the part#)...you will also need to use a standard 6 3/4'' SBC balancer and the LT1 7 1/2'' wont clear the block off plate

other then those few things it just like dropping in any other 350

for the Opti spark hole you have to plug in the timing cover, why couldnt you just get a new timing cover?? the bolt patterns are the same if im not mistaken..

The LT1 would still require the gear driven water pump since it would still be reverse flow cooling since the LT1 heads would still be used unless they wanted to swap to an electric water pump and I dunno if I would trust those quite yet for the LT1.

They've been out for 10 years now for the LT1. More than enough time to work out any minor bugs in the originals.

He could avoid this by running a small block chevy timing chain and an electric waterpump. His decision.

Carbureting the LT1 is easer than you think. I did my Lt1 in my s10 that way. All you need is 7 things. You must keep the Lt1 timing cover all you need to do is plug the hole. No more sending the chip to get tuned or dyno time Old school easy tune.
1. GM LT1 Carbureted intake
2. MSD Bullet Distributor
3. MSD 6AL box
4. Good Ignition Coil
5. Holley 750 Double Pumper, “Don’t **** with the Vacuumed secondary“
6. Holley Blue Fuel pump
7. And a set of MSD 8.5 wires
