Alternator wiring for swap to carbed SBC

Ok I swapped a 383 SBC in my 88 camaro and yesterday i went to work on the wiring harness. I layed the harness the way it would seem to hook up to the original 305 TBI. I disconnected the ECM and yanked it out. Then I pulled the harness through the fender into the enging compartment. I taped up what seemed to be the alternator and strter wires and put them aside I cut basicly everything else out. My question is that there are three wires that come off the alternator plug then one other wire that connects lower on the alt. I know one wire (dk brown) goes to the guage then theres a fat black/red wire Im guessing is a ground then theres a tanwire with a white stripe that goes to the ECM then back to a relay mounted on the firewall near the brake booster. does anyone know what this wire/relay is? Am i on the right track or should i just cut everything out and start from scratch? THANKS

I cut
I'd help, but it's too late for that now. The damage is done.

I had posted numerous threads before about what to do with the wiring because i didnt want that bulky stock harness taking up half of my enging compartment. The only replies that I got were to leave the harness in place and just use the wires that i needed. Well I debated on what to do for a couple of months then I just decided to get out the trusty shop manual and do the best I could with it. If all else fails ill just cut it all out and start over because all i need to run is the starter and the alternator. All my ignition will be MSD. The only wires that i cut out were the ones that went to the ECM in the bulky fat harness. I didnt cut none of the lights harness. What should I have done? Thanks

Hmm this is an easy fix. Buy a One wire internally regulated alt from liek autozone. If they insist on a model and year just say an early 70s chevelle with a 350. Super easy, i think its only ONE wire that goes straight to your Batt positive.
