350 design
350 design
My question is I am going to buy a reman 350 long block to use with a TPI setup. first question is does it matter if the engine is specifically coded for TPI or carb and if so why? my other question is what are the differences between 85 year 350 and 87 year 350 so far I know of single piece rear main seal and center bolt valve covers are there any other differences that would prevent using 85 setup on an 87 motor. thanks paul

You want to make sure the cam is compatible with TPI, as it is more picky about the cam than a carb would be.
One other key difference is the center two intake manifold mount bolt angles. They changed from 90 degrees to 72 degrees in the 1987 model year. That doesn't "prevent" usage, but it does add one small challenge.
