Thinking about the LS2

Pace has the LS2 for 5,800. Does anyone know anyone who has done this swap? It should be almost identical to the ls1 swap, correct? What kind of times do you think my car would run with that engine and a t-56 with 3.42 gears? 89 IROC-Z originally a L98

take a look at the GTO, figure you're going to be about .5 seconds faster, and there you go. and yes, it should be pretty much the exact same as and LS1 swap. which begs the question, why would you pay 6000 just for the engine, for basically an LS1?

The LS2's are 6.0's instead of 5.7, 400/400 at the crank instead of the 325 or 335 like the LS1's are. Plus there are quite a bit of mods out for the LS2's but not for sure on what they are off hand.

You are going to need to spend a lot more since that motor does not come with any wiring or accessories. You can have an LS1 with mods for cheaper that will make more than 400hp.

yes, and there are even more mods out for the LS1. Lets look at this:

LS2
- $5859.95
-comes with intake, TB, waterpump, flexplate, manifolds, and a corvette oil pan

-Going to need all the accessories, wiring harness, ECM, F-Body oil pan, transmission

LS1
-used LS1 with transmission runs for about $2000-$2500, maybe more, maybe less depending on mileage and the deal you can find
-comes complete with all accessories, ECM, wiring harness, transmission, and most likely an F-Body oil pan

-with the $3000 saved from the engine alone, get a set of Patriot CNC ported heads, cam, long tube headers, and you'll totally destroy an LS2.

Then, with the money saved from not having to get accessories, ECM, harness, etc., get a 6.0L stroker kit and laugh at LS2's all day long.

One more thing, LS1's are putting 330 down at the wheels, not the crank.

I am doing this swap, but I'm putting in a fully-forged 402ci LS2 rather than a stock one.

In my opinion, the stock LS2 crate engine is just too expensive. For the price of the LS2, you can get a COMPLETE LS1 and T56, custom wiring harness, installation, and a couple bolt-on mods. (You still would want to address suspension and braking issues at this point with either swap, so that expense is still "extra" regardless which engine you use).

When I looked at building up my LS1, it became more cost effective to just get a new shortblock made - and then the LS2 wasn't a whole lot more.

If you are going to buy an LS1 crate engine or custom short/long block anyway, AND you have the deep pockets to do it right the first time, then by all means go with the LS2 over the LS1. But if you are building a "budget" project, either stick with the LS1 and get a used engine, or wait a couple of years for used LS2s to become readily available.

I'd like to know where these 2500 dollar full-pull LS1/T56 deals are. Everywhere I see (ebay and local parts yards) are averaging 3700...

....and I've never seen or heard of a stock LS1 car put down 330rwhp. They are under rated, but not that much. 300-310rwhp.
