4.3 Engine Swap?
4.3 Engine Swap?
I have a 91 Firebird with a blown engine that I'd like to sell.
I need an engine for it and there are a few 4.3 engined with transmissions, and some without, around for sale.
I know that the 2.8 will fit in and it has the 3.1, but I figured I might be able to get a more solid sell if I put a stronger engine in it without going to a V8 and the headache that would cause just to sell it.
Would the 4.3 work in the Firebird?

4.3 could cause more headaches than jsut a v8 swap, but at least as much. If you want a more solid/bigger engien, put a 3.4 in it, but then you might not want to sell it.
and remember,
and remember,

Anything will work with enough money. I would not waste all that time and energy to put a 4.3 when the same amount of work can net you a V8 swap. You should be able to find a 350 out of a truck, van, car, ect ect that can be had for about the same price.

The car probably wont sell better with a better motor if its still a v6. One that's not blown up sure, but a different V6 probably not. 60* v6 (rwd 2.8, 3.1, 3.4)would be the easiest thing to do.. and by far the cheapest... 3.4 being the "better motor" as mentioned... no one wants 2.8s and 3.1s .. they go for cheap.
and the 4.3 transmission wont help you unless you don't plan on putting the torque arm back on the car for some crazy reason... so I wouldn't look for a 4.3 with a transmission.

Didn't know that... true with T5s as well?
3.4 would be way way way cheaper than putting a V8 in the car (assuming you do the work). I rebuilt my 3.4l (rings, gaskets, machine work, honed cyl, new bearings, etc) before putting it in my car and it didnt cost anywhere near what it would have cost just to buy a decent fuel injected 350, muchless go through with the conversion. ... of course I got my 3.4 for much cheaper than the average bear (free?
). 3.4L swap would be the way to go... IMO. But it'll be more expensive to find a 3.4l than it would to find a 2.8l or a 3.1l... and if youre selling it, why would it matter? Unless you swap the EFI stuffs (pointless), then no one would believe you anyway (all it is is a short block swap, unless you really felt the need to replace your heads with a set of the same heads)... unless you had it done and had reciepts for it...
