tbi to carb

I am converting my 89 RS 305 tbi to a carbureted motor...I was wondering what camshaft would be the best choice because at this point in my conversion, i'm only changing the intake, carb, distributor, fuel pump, and the whole exhaust system. Also, would I have to change the ignition...If so what do you guys recommend?

I am in the middle of doing this right now also. I originally wanted to keep the TBI but my engine was too radical for me to have enough patience to tinker with the ecm. The cam I have in my 305 has a very rough idle. It has 480 lift intake and exhaust, something like 282 adv duration and 109 lobe center and I dont get anything but a cool sound below 1500 RPM's. I almost wouldn't mind a lesser cam, but live and learn. The distributor is all you have to change...to a non cc distributor. The one that I got is a stock dist from a 75 truck, although I have to buy a different can because of the lack of vaccum at idle.

just an aside here, can't you leave the computer hooked up to the distributer and still allow the computer to control the timing and listen for knocking?

You can, but the timing advance will only be what is built into the module, which ain't much (the computer will go braindead). "Limp home" stuff. In fact, not nearly enough for daily driving, and you are going to sacrifice something - most likely fuel economy.
