Thinking to get ls6 instead of ls1...but dont know if ls6 has the same engine mount as ls1?
I bought 99 ls1, when arrived I cheked the engine block it is 98.
Now I just want to get new ls6 engine.

Do you know the difference between the two?
Ok first off the only main difference between the blocks are windage holes which are cast into the ls6 block. The did this so air could move easily through the lower end.
Cam, Heads, and intake are the only other dofference.
So yes the motor mounts are the same. And you can mis match parts for it to. Ie ls6 heads on an ls1. You can even use the caddy 6.0 escalade heads if you think your going to run a blower cause they flow the same as an ls6 head but have bigger combustion chambers.
Not sure what you want out of this motor but I would just stick with the ls1.

I would stick with the LS1 motor that you have now. LS6 motors aren't easily found and the fact that they came in Z06 vettes really jacks up the barganing costs. The core you have now is fully capable of making serious power with little mods.

What did you use to identify the engine as a '98? It's very possible (likely, even) for a '99 model year engine to have been built in 1998.

Or if you really want an ls6 block most 01-03 Camaro or Corvettes have them even though there ls1's. Gm just started using some ls6 blocks instead of casting two of pritty much the same block.

Best way to find out if it's a 98 or 99 is check the valve cover bolt pattern, 99+ are centerbolt and the 98 are perimeter bolt. Unless the heads were changed.

The way I found out its 1998 is when I separated the trany and open the back cover I can see there are two small holes for the oil galey not one medium size hole.
I checked the laser print sticker on the back of the block the number says "W...".
W -- 1998
X -- 1999 and so on..
the heads came with center bolts not parameter bolts.
The coils mounted on the brackets not individualy mounted.
It looks like that the heads had been changed to early model.
