I need some advice. My dumbass ofcourse figured i could slide my long tubes in with out too much trouble just because of how empty my engine bay is (only an engine obviouslly) so i got the passenger side in with little to no trouble, but the driver side is a real PITA, i shoulda layed them in before i dropped the motor but too late now. So i want to jack the motor up so i can get it in however im too lazy if you will to use the cherry picker again (but i will if i have to) want to keep it connected to the tranny cuz its a b*tch to get that motor to slide in with my 8 quart oil pan, damn cross member makes it damn near impossible. So i wanted to know if i place a jack underneath the balancer i know its probably not too good of an idea since itll put a lot of load on the bearings but that would be the easiest? Think itll be fine? Or should i just pull out the cherry picker and connect it to the top of the intake like i did when i dropped it? I know thats the better move but if putting a jack under the balancer works id rather do that route.

 

on my old t/a I removed a motor mount bolt on the on side, use da jack w/a block of wood & used that to lift the crank pulley some. I t works, jsut make sure you don't bump teh jack or car too hard. But since you already have a picker, just remove one motor mount bolt & lift, it'll tilt the engine for what you need.

 

I believe for the driverside on my 82 Z28 we actually had to remove both motor mount bolts.. Put the jack under the oilpan with a block of wood betweem the jack and pan. (usually not suggested as a good choice).. But anyways only taking the driverside motor mount bolt out didn't allow for enough clearance.. With both out we were able to jack the motor up enough just to barely slip it in. This is on a 400 sbc and Hooker Super Comp full lengths (1 3/4" primary tubes).

 

Before you raise the motor,try putting the car up as high as you can on jackstands,and slide it up from underneath.You gotta have it up there a ways,but if you can turn your header to where the front is nearly straight up,it should slide through.At least thats how I got my 13/4" hookers in.Just a thought,it's worth a try
