does anyone know how to find out what year a l98 engine came from by just looking at the engine? is there any identification numbers on the engine to determine the year and if so where are they located?

 

There are date codes on the block that will tell you when the block was cast, and that will help you, although I don't know exactly where.

Theres also some 'inscription' on the pass side deck, right infront of the head. That also could tell you what year it was from. I'm not 100% on that one though, it may only tell you what kind of car it came from.

they will tell you what month,day and year it was casted
