There have been countless threads on "305 tpi to 350 tpi." Seach.
What you could do is get a replacement 350 from someplace like http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/...46&p_catid=111
And swap the intake on. Get 22lb injectors a knock sensor for a 350 and the computer chip for a 350.

jeremys82c10,

You don't even own the car yet and you want to change the engine?

If you purchase this vehicle, and it has been properly maintained and is operating as designed. You will be pleasantly surprised how much more powerful the IROC TPI 305 is than the Non-TPI 305 you owned previously.

Those IROC's are EXTREMELY good performers and the TPI is IMPO is a very very good set-up, probably the BEST set-up the factory installed on a Third Gen.

IMPO - Changing the engine on a TPI car for those few extra cubic inches (when/if there is nothing wrong with the 305 that is in it) is an expensive and dumb move. That's just my personal opinion.

Sincerely,
Kurt

I was thinking about swapping out my 305 tpi for a 350 but i was wondering... is it possible to use the stock tpi setup on a crate 350?

Yes it will. Just make sure that the crate engine does not have vortec heads. GM is making a lot of crate engines with vortec heads. Another thing if you are actually going this route make sure you port the plenum, runners, and base. And just make sure you do not get a high performance crate because the TPI will choke it on the top end.

The way I look at it, if the car is your daily driver, keep the fuel injection. If you want a mild performing car, keep the tpi and do some porting or buy larger runner, base, etc. If you want to go fast with spending the least amount, go carb. So technically you could put a crate engine under it, but it will be a waste with the stock setup. Already as mentioned a lot of crates have vortec heads, you can by a baseplate for the tpi system, but its again more $. Then you have to tune it, easiest route would be diy prom burning. I just went to big for the tpi system, and didn't feel like spending $1000 or more just to get the intake system up to par.

In '88, the automatic version of the LB9 TPI 305 didn't have as good a cam as the 5-speed version. But, it isn't that bad, and will probably have more power than the non-TPI 305 you previously had. If you want to up the power, do a cam swap.
