1999 or 2000 on up LS1 motor swap
Can any one tell me if the newer LS1 motors or LS2 motors would fit in my 86 IROC Z? If so how much and what mods would I have to do. If not what is the latest year LS or LT motor I can put in my 86 with out hacking the car to pieces.
My e mail is ntrow99@aol.com
Thanks for any ones help.

Dam. cause I found a 2005 GTO that has 24k on it that was wiped out in a acident with 400 hp 400' lb of torque LS2 with trans, ECM, harnnes and MAF for $8,000. Just wanted to know if that would fit. Now wouldn't that be an *** kicking set up.

In '05 GM switched to CAN bus, so the PCM and wiring are different than what's been documented for the '99-02 LS1 swap projects.
Jump on Google or whatever and do a search on Controller Area Network, or hit the SAE site and buy some papers at $10 a pop and you'll quickly become the resident expert.
It's basically a jump from the old low-speed serial bus to something faster that can move more data between distributed controllers and sensors.

Its great for communication between modules, but it sucked paying $400 to get my Tech2 to read it.
The swap is probably still doable, just require a little more work.

You should go to thirdgenresource.com and see what they did to swap thier ls1 into thier third gen. They have a complete write up and they also make all the parts to direct bolt one in so check it out. If you do look for a LS1 motor from camaro/firebird look for a 01 to 02 they have the LS6 intake and the 02s came with a ZO6 clutch for 6 speed and I beleive better piston rings.
