8.1 liter 3rd gen ideas

ive been kicking this idea around for a while. i was thinking about getting e reasonable 3rd gen and swapping either a 6.0 or an 8.1. i figure the 6l swap would be pretty straightfoward, but im not sure about the 8.1l. its said its a ls configuration motor but i dont know if its the same size as the ls1. does anybody know, has anybody tried it or thought about it. it seems to me a very interesting prospect and would at least definitly be unique. also where is some good info on the 8.1 liter, compression, wheght and such. me being a glutton for punishment it would eventually get turbod probally.

the 8.1 is a bigblock with new style modifications, the 6litre is still based on the ls1 and all ls1 stuff can be swapped

The 6.0L is just an iron block LS1, so just look at the LS1 swap threads about this one.

how that 6.0 go? pretty good i bet. im not really interested in doing a bog block swap, i had just thought that the 8.1 might by nearly the same size as an ls1 because its said to be based on the same motor and i had heard different thing on the net about it size wise that is.

I know that using the iron 6.0 block instead of the factory aluminum 5.7 block is popular with alot of the 4thgen guys with VERY fast cars... its a stronger block, and its bigger too.

Re: 8.1 liter 3rd gen ideas

I have an 8.1L n an 01' 2500HDI have done alot of search to modify it without much luck. It is an LS18 and i know that some parts interchange to,not with but to, the 6.0 We have taken the injectors and throttle body off the 8.1 and put them on a 6.0. The engine and trans combo in the trucks (8.1L and Allison 5 spd) is a killer combo. I have 110,000 on my truck and no real probs so far, crank sensor is all I've had to replace. I am putting this combo in a 48' Chevy Truck soon and will be glad to share the results. The best performance parts I've found is for marine app's, mercruiser uses it.
