2.8 MPFI to 305 or 350 Carbed
Okay Im positive this has been posted many many times...but I have searched a bit and can't really find EXACTLy what im looking for.
I have an 87 Camaro, with a 2.8, and automatic ( my buddy said it is probably the 200R4....NO IDEA heh) Im very mechanically inclined and have a year and a half of auto school but dont know engine or tranny codes at all....I want to swap in a 305 or 350 that is carbed.......here are my questions
Do I need to change the mounts at all? or do they just bolt right in.....
Will the tranny bolt right up to the v8?
Lastly...which is what im MOST worried about...What electronically, am I going to have to rewire, I.E. Gauges? Speed sensors? lol, I know my way around most cars, but have only swapped one motor so ya....any help would be greatly appreciated, I want the power of the v8, but I might stick with just a 305 to help on gas....Thanks in advance

wiring, dependson how you want the carb/dizzy set up.
have you read the v6~v8 stucky???? all of these questions are answered there.
& fwiw, I'm almost finished this same swap (well the long road forma 2.8 to 3.4 to 3800 to 305) and if you swap over the entire harness from the v8 car, it's CAKE.

Lol umm....you never specified which part of the Mount question you were answering yes to. And your sure its a 700R4? I could be wrong but i was just going by my buddy saying its a 200R4....And what you mean wiring depending on how I want the carb and dist set up? Honestly right now I just want the easiest but most efficient...so if I computer controlled carb and dist isnt too bad, than Ill do that, or if you suggest just old school everything, ill do that. Like I said, I can pretty much trouble shoot the everything about this swap except the wiring of the gauges....IE. Tach and Speedo....Im sure I can figure out the others but where would the tach and speedo wiring go to? And I hear people say harness all the time, do you mean the WHOLE wiring that goes to the engine? I know this sounds stupid, but from installing 300 radios in my and family cars, all I think of when someone says "harness" is the actual harness that snaps into the ECU with about 10 inches of wire behind it and just cutting it lol. I saw a 350 in the paper for 50 bucks..thinking of getting it to build on for now, My car no longer leaks coolant due to my buddy adding some additive that actually worked. And for some reason, the tranny, when you floor it, doesnt slip or anything, but sometimes it doenst seem like its "upshifting" when its supposed to, like I floor it around 50, it will go to second gear I think, but its at like 2500 rpms..and she just slugs along lol, I think it should maybe shift into first for about 2000 rpms than go to second right? Or it could just be the crappy v6 hauling all this weight......This isnt something im gonna be doing anytime soon, but something I want to do by this summer, but I wouldnt mind starting to rebuild the motor now.

From what i read (sorry if i am spreading misinformation, but this is from what i have read on the forums) the TH200r4 is the v6 verson of the TH700r4, If you have a 4 speed auto tranny then it is a 700r4(or the th200r4) now if your unlucky like me, and have a three speed, (which i highly doubt) you got the th200c

If you have the money, and are worried about gas milage and want the power, don't go carbed go ahead and find a TPI motor or an LT1 or LS1, granted you will end up with more money in it, but 25-27MPG for either the LT1 and LS1 is well worth it and have plenty of power to boot.

I appreciate all the info guys. Well right now money is the only real issue, so I think what im going to do is get a 50 dollar 350 from the paper and maybe start tearing it down, and I suppose I could always swap a TBI intake on it at a later time depending on what I decide to do. I was looking online earlier and they had a 350 W/out EGR at a junkyard for 350 bucks...not really looking to spend THAT kind of money yet so not sure. I think another thing I will do is see if I can get my hands on an old piece of crap carb that would have gone on a 350 and take it apart a couple times, if I can learn it from back to front, I might be more inclined to have that instead.

Been There Done That.
I completed this swap last november. I bent a rod in the 2.8 so my decision was simple: 350.
The main adaption was the use of a mechanical fuel pump. I used the return line from my in tank pump. and it had to be run on the front side of the cross member.
Engine mounts for the V8s sit lower and further ahead on the crossmember. should cost about 20 bucks each new.
As for the engine wiring, I got a harness off an 85 Z and it plugs into the wiring that would go to your ECM. runs behind the pass fender and in to the engine compartment near the A/C blower.
Then it was pretty much plug and play. For somereason my elec choke isin't quite functioning but that is probably something else?
If you want to know anything else PM me. good luck with your swap.

I am running a 700R4 with the vette servos for firm shifts. Most of my photos of the build up are polaroids so I will snap some with my digital and post finish product plus the trouble spots shortly.
