Engine Swap (Different)

Why am I seeing a lot of Oldsmobile 350 v8's out of 1968-1972 cars in third gen cars? are the mounts the same? I own 2 1970 442's with olds 455 engines. i know the tranny patterns are different and so are the driveshaft. what i am wondering now is will a tpi engine go the other way and swap into a 1968-1972 a body?

If there is something I am missing I sure would love to be more informed. A fuelie tpi 383 and a t56 in my new 1970 442 g machine project would sound interesting.

Thanks for any info in advance.

Use the SBC motor mounts.

i know to use the SBC motor mounts but i have been told that the 2 engines should not clear the opposite 2 car's firewalls.
Its just odd that I am seeing so many olds motors in camaros, and i was wondering if anyone actually did the swap and what were the other issues.
thanks

The '70 Olds 442/cutlass has all of the same motor mount holes on the k frame that a '70 Chevy chevelle/mallibu has.Or the '70 Pontiac GTO/Lemans and Buick GSX/Skylark for that matter.A SBC will bolt into a '70 442 just as easy as it bolts into a '70 chevelle.Just have the right motor mounts in the right spot for which ever swap you are doing.I know that on some older cars like the '70 Nova a larger HEI distributor will hit the firewall.Nothing that a few light taps with a hammer won't fix

The guys at Tennessee Auto are putting an LS1 in a 442 right now, and it's becoming a nightmare with getting things to work right, and they're putting an auto in.

I guess I should have said a 1st generation SBC. the TPI motor will bolt right in,but I don't think the LT1 or LS1 are direct bolt ins.A TPI 383 with a 6 speed shouldn't be to complicated. It would be best to have a donor car to scavange all the TPI related things you will need.Looking at the LT1,LS1,TPI thread should help you out.
