Can a Stock TPI Flow enough For a mild 383?
Please Help!!! I just put together a new bottom end for my 87 trans am GTA and it is a 400 crank with 5.565 rods and trw forged pistons with ARP bolts all over along with dart iron eagle heads. The heads are 2.02/ 1.64 and are 215 cfm runners. I a have a bone stock tpi that I would love to put on it, I now I will have to get an adapter for the tpi base plate to fit on the dart heads. but what all will be need? I know knock sensor, prom and fuel pressure and injectors. the car had a mild 350 tpi in before. the motor will prolly never get above 6500 rpm, nor would I ever want to rev it that high being a 383. any help or suggestions would kick ***. thanks and oh yeah this is my first post and I just wanted to say I love this effin site :-)

LOL, sorry. The stock TPI system can't support a stock 350. It will choke the hell out of your mild 383, and don't worry about that thing revving high, cause with the stock system you won't see 5K. If you have to due to money issues then it will run, however step up to the Holley stealthram for an intake. You will need larger injectors 26-30lbs will work fine, I assume you mean fuel pressure regulator in that case yes it will help, I would upgrade your fuel pump if it hasn't been done yet, and a custom prom will be needed to run the show. Welcome to the site, I would write more and make more sense but I have to run.

i would have to agree, if you were dedicate to tpi i would say a high flow base like edelbrock's and some ported runners like slp. They may get it good enough but a stealth ram is really the way to go for power. If you must stay smog legal, the super ram system would be good. GOOD LUCK

You can put it on, but I would really take the motor past 4800rpms, as your not gonna be able to get much air into the motor. Either get a high flow baseplate and some TPIS/AS&M Runners(look stock) or a baseplate and Some ported SLP's. Thats if your dedicated TPI
If not a Stealth Ram is very cheap and works more like the Top end of an LT1(air flow wise) or a SuperRam.

Thread Hi jack. Don I have a built 305. I add a crane bumpstick, hand ported the heads myself and added 1.5 roller rockers, and upgraded the springs in my stock heads. At first I ran the stock TPI system, with stock throttle body. It had wicked low end buy it really gave up around 4500 or so. So I upgraded to a 52mm throttle body, edelbrock base manifold and TPIS runners. Huge difference in power output. I really didn't notice a low end loss however it pulls really strong all the way to 5200. I would say the stock system is good for a stock 305. Add full exhaust, air intake and you would notice a difference with upgrades. Best upgrade for a 305 is a 350, LOL sorry working on that now. Hope this helps

here is what I have for a setup in my GTA. 3.73 richmond rear with uprgraded axle shafts. aluminum driveshaft. 700r4 that is beefed up. kevlar bands, full manual valve body, upgraded servos, hardned input shaft and upgraded pump for more line pressure along with a tci street fighter 2500 stall. the motor has a 400 crank that has been knife edged, 5.565 rods that have been reconditioned. 4 bolt main. blocked has been race prepped. trw forged .60 over pistons. 9 to 1 compression. I have on a set of dart iron eagle heads 2.02 1.64 titianium valves good to 620 lift. 7 quart oil pain with windage screen and crank scraper, high volume oil pump and pickup. long tube headers. and a holley fuel pump in the tank and a holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator on the fender wall. what I would like to do is break in the motor on the stock tpi after I get the larger injectors. can tpi injectors be used on the holley stealth ram? any ideas on how much hp and or torque I can expect to see out of this motor and stealth ram combo? thanks Clint
