A few post engine pull questions.
A few post engine pull questions.
Last night I just finished pulling the engine out of my 84 z28. My plan is to either rebuild or replace the engine, and then popping it back in.
At the moment the car is sitting on 4 jackstands in the garage.
At this point in the game, I'm looking for tips or suggestions for the following, from people who have been here before.
1) Can anyone give tips or ideas on cleaning the 25 plus years of grime and filth out of the engineless bay (I'd prefer to do it inside the garage if practical)?
2) Only place in the engine bay with any significat amount of surface rust is the battery box, any thought on the best way to fix this up?
3) I might need to roll the car in and out of the garage, any ideas on supporting the torque arm so this can be done?
Thanks

1. I used Purple Power, paper towelsa, and a scotch pad to clean up my bay. Some orange gojo works too.
2. What he ^^ said. I didn't have that much rust in there. I did the naval jelly thing.
3. The torque arm will rotate up & rest against the top of teh tunnel. I didn't have any issues rolling the car back & forth in the garage.

Simple Green
TheWesman,
I use simple-green and a Power Washer. It's the best cleaner I've found for the engine bay. It works very well with minimal actual hand scrubbing, although simple-green is a little pricey.
Wherever you do the cleaning, there will be gobs of gunch and goop being washed off. I don't think you could do a good job inside a garage without turing your house into a total mess. Then you'll be crawling around in that crap when you install the engine.
You might think about selecting an area to accomplish the cleaning that's in the back corner of the yard somewhere. That gunch and goop that falls off could also be a problem on the driveway as well.

por15 has an paint prep kit that includes their marine clean, metal prep, and por15 paint
they claim the marine clean is a very good auto cleaner
I'm gonna try the kit out really soon on my bay...going semi-gloss black
