Should I have to do this to pull a motor
hey,
im just wondering if im the only one with this problem. I cant pull my engine from the front of the car without pulling off the whole front end. is this because of the hoist im using? the ram of the hoist hits the front end of the car before the hook can get anywhere near the center of the engine. has anyone pulled their motor from the side? that was my next guess (i already took the whole front end off my camaro)
thanks
Joe

Disconnect the engine from the transmission and torque converter. Pull the engine only. Hook the lift chain to the motor chain as best you can and then lift the motor off the mounts and move it forward in the engine bay. Put the motor down so it rests in the bay in front of the engine mounts. Re-attach the lift hook in the middle of the motor chain and lift the motor all the way out. You can also remove one front wheel and support the A arm with a jack stand and slide the cheery picker in from the side. I didn't need to do this.
Reverse the process to reinstall the motor. Easier to do with the water pump and front accessories removed. You don't need to remove the hood either. just detach the hood lift cylinders and prop the hood open further.

Car: a car being parted out
Engine: blown up
Transmission: in peices
yeah... the birds are a pain...
I had to lift from side, move it forward 6-12 inches, then go back to the front.
I pulled engine and trans.
I have alreadt decided I am gonna make new legs and slide bar for my picker that are about 18 inches longer...

From the side isn't bad if you've got the room. That's what I did.

thank you for ur responses. i measured and figured that it would work from the side, but i wanted to make sure before i got too deep into it. when you pulled the engine from the side, where did you let it rest, is there a certian position or place you can set it where no damage will be done?

I know what you mean about the right size picker. We have an overhead crane at work. Makes it soo nice for pulling engines.
LMAO, those pics crack me up. I'm sorry but pulling the engine out of an 80's model car is your driveway/front yard is soo ghetto.
